World Autism Awareness Day is today! Let show our support!
April 2nd every year is announced as a World Autism Awareness Day by United Nation! The agenda is to give awareness about what Autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD) is about and to improve the lives of people affected with autism around the world! Normally the celebration will be carried out by wearing BLUE shirt (blue is its official color) with slogan "Let's Light It Up Blue"! The ASD is more common among boys as compared to girls - every 4:1 ratio and recent study by scientist on the tremendous increases number of ASD cases worldwide with World Health Organization (WHO) shows 1% prevalence of autism in a country by estimation. If this percentage is applied on our country, Malaysia with 31millions populations, it is estimated that we probably have 310,000 children with autism!
Why today is so special to me?
I'm one of the thousands of chosen family around the world who has child living with autism. For me the 9 years journey (and still counting) with my lovely daughter is somewhat a blessing to me and my whole family. The important message that she has taught us is about having high patience and be grateful with uniqueness showed from her autism traits and potentials.
Diversity is not a bad thing. The fact that she's born with autism is not a tragedy , it is a blessing! My family and I never know how beauty it is when raising an autism child who see the world in a different way .. it is beyond our expectation. I really hope that people could see her as unique by her own way and looking forward for more inclusion in society at any level!
My wish list for today : Let's celebrate and cherish individual with autism. Put aside judgmental attitude coz they deserve the rights to live happily!
My celebration #WAAD2018 @ Rimau Cafe!
I am not alone today coz I've got the opportunity to celebrate #WAAD2018 together with my friends from PAAM and NASOM at Rimau Cafe located at Kementerian Belia Dan Sukan (KBS) Putrajaya celebrating children living with autism. The celebration starts at 10 am until 1 o'clock and was officiated by YBhg. Pn. Nori Tun Abdullah, Puspanita Patron. Among other activities presented to audiences are from NASOM Maestros, a solo presentation from 2 autism icon - Umar Hasfizal, Clarence Kang and baking demo from Kolej Komuniti Jelebu! Beside, there is an open booth to showcase autism children art too!. Here are some snapshots for the effort of raising awareness to steemit communities!

I have been working with autism colleagues for few year, I agreed with you that patience is a must. I never deny that I have learn a lot from them too.
Great to know you have that experience @liewsc. Not many ppl out there willing to be around them coz they scared or dunno how to start a conversation with them. Well, if we don't make the first move, we never know what to expect right! ;)
Thank you for sharing @esdee... It's true... instead of shunning "different" we need to embrace it
It 's pleasure sharing about ASD. Old days this group of individuals were labelled as mentally retarded coz they have been diagnosed like a sick ppl. Actually, having autism is not a disease at all! All misconceptions need to be trashed out! They are still human with different neuro wiring.. only God Almighty knows! Just give them same exposure and opportunity like anyone else, they can excel too! This is my advocacy. Thank you for reading my post @kaerpediem. ;)

I must first commend you for doing an excellent job with your child by loving her and seeing her uniqueness. Thank you for shedding more light for us to know what it is like too. I too believe including them and the society should be more educated on this. Love your positivity and good to have you in Steemmamas too! :)
