Best TV Shows of All Time I
Traveling and being active are things I love doing. But what I equally love is having a cozy day in - just watching movies and TV series all day long. Admittedly, I am a little addicted to Netflix. I’ve watched many, many shows in my life and I thought I’d share my absolute favorites here.
Part I
Game of Thrones

I don’t think there is a need to explain why Game of Thrones is one of the best TV shows ever. Most people here probably watch it as well. I used to love fantasy books and movies when I was a growing up, so it was natural for me to fall in love with Game of Thrones. But it is so much more than just a fantasy story. The characters, the plot, the setting, the filming, the CGI is all near perfection. I’ve watched GoT ever since the first season when it wasn’t quite so well-known and popular but I am really happy that it got so famous (= more money for production).

The series revolutionized TV programs in my opinion. I used to watch shows where the plot barely made sense as the writers always just planned for one season – probably because they never knew if it would get canceled. The writers eventually ran out off ideas and crazy things started to happen. Twists that were supposed to be shocking and mind-blowing just didn’t make sense because nothing was in line with the previous plot. Even cool TV shows like “Lost” were like that. Not to mention dumb shows like “The Vampire Diaries” where everyone died at least ten times and came back to life whenever the writers ran out of ideas. At the time I still enjoyed watching those as I didn’t know better. Then GoT came along and just took everything to the next level.

On a side note: My favorite characters are Tyrion, Jaime, Sansa, Arya… oh well, actually I love them all, even Cersei (please don’t hate me but she’s such a badass). Tell me in the comments which ones you like best and who’ll end up on the iron throne!
Outlander
My absolute woman-crush
Maybe it is because Outlander is also based on a book series like Game of Thrones but in my opinion it is as equally amazing when it comes to story-telling in a TV show. Outlander isn’t as grandiose and there aren’t a million different story lines like in GoT, however Outlander is in my opinion almost as good.
In case you don’t know: It is set in the 18th century during the Scottish revolution against the British crown. I never knew much about that - or even cared as a matter of fact - but through the series I almost feel like I am a Scot myself and want to start fighting for independence from England (just joking). Funnily, I don’t have any feeling of patriotism when it comes to my own country. Scotland is now definitely high up on my travel list as well.
For anyone who’d consider watching Outlander, I urge you to continue watching after the first episode as some people find it a little boring. This will change soon, I promise.
Life
This is something completely different. It is a documentary series on the wonders of all the different life forms on earth. Each episode shows a different kind like marine life, reptiles, mammals, plants, etc. And let me tell you, every single episode blew me away and left my in awe of our beautiful planet earth and all the fascinating animals on it. The series is also so, so beautifully filmed.
I watch quite a lot of documentaries, especially ones about nature and animals, but this TV series is just the absolute best of all of them.
Sense 8
Sense 8 is one of the best Netflix productions in my opinion. Despite being a cinematic masterpiece, the story is thrilling and the characters very interesting. Eight different lives in eight different countries are shown, all connected through a mental bond.
Unfortunately, after the first two seasons there’ll only be a few more rounding-up episodes which I don’t understand at all since Sense 8 is one of the best shows of all time for me.
My favorite characters and story lines are the ones from Sun (in Korea) and Nomi (in the USA) but I actually love them all.
13 Reasons Why
I can only say: Be prepared to cry. This show left me feeling depressed for three days after I finished watching it. It is about bullying and suicide which are pretty dark themes. Still it is amazing and I guess most people have already seen “13 Reasons Why” since it got a lot of attention when it first came out.

Thanks for the interesting portrait of your favorite shows. I have to admit that I don't like GoT, I only watched the first four episodes and I did NOT get hooked. There was too much gore, dark stuff and erotic sensationalism - but that is a question of taste. Yet I liked the "Winter is coming" guy (Stark, played by Sean Bean, who I also like in Lord of the Rings), the white wolves, Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister.
I don't know any of the other shows. "Outlander" sounds very interesting, I will try that out.
My all time favorite is still "Friends". I also love documentaries about animals and foreign cities & cultures.
I think you should give GoT a second try and look past those scenes because it really is an amazing show! But maybe you'll like Outlander better, although there is some violence and steamy scenes as well. Not in the same degree as GoT though and the overall tone of the series is different too.
Friends is a classic for sure!
Where did you leave Breaking Bad?
I have to admit that I never really watched it! But it's on my list for sure!
By the way, my favorite character was the King in the North.
