How To Spot Permanent Hearing Loss Symptoms
It’s fine to bar your girlfriend’s nagging voice occasionally, but you may have a problem that needs to be addressed if you are totally incapable of hearing it. You may wish to increase the volume of your TV or your stereo, but don’t convince yourself that you don’t have a problem if you can’t hear anything at an average volume. Admit it, you are having hearing loss. Better do something about it before it’s too late.
Deafness is not uncommon to those in the baby boomers generation, or plainly those approaching the retirement age. Studies show that a great percent of this generation experiences a decrease in their hearing capability. Depending on how serious the situation is or how involved one in doing something about it, deafness can be prevented or decreased.
Younger generations also experience symptoms that lead to deafness. It is either acquired during early childhood or picked up as they grow up. Teenagers lose their hearing in other means. Some factors include self-inflicting the symptoms on themselves, albeit unknowingly. Listening to loud music, unhealthy dieting, and poor hygienics are just some of it.
If you already can’t hear anything, you certainly know that you’ve lost it already. It doesn’t happen overnight, though, unless it’s a gruesome accident. Before it becomes absolute, it will give you hints that you are going to have it.
Hearing stifled sounds is one of the symptoms. Perhaps you have trouble hearing your mother lecture you, which is impossible because she screams each word. Perhaps this is just a one-time problem. Maybe you only happen to have a cold or an ear infection or other malady. But this may lead to a permanent loss of hearing if you go through this on regularly.
Youth today turn up the volume of their iPod or TV in an astonishing level. While it seems inconsequential today, that may not be the case to you. If you believe you turn up the volume not because you like it that way or because you just got used to it, then you may be doing it because you need to hear it. Maybe you already have damaged hearing.
Do you have problems identifying setting noise from the main voice? This symptom is one of the most distinctive symptoms of deafness. When you have a problem recognizing the voice of the person who is talking to you from the rest of the noise of the room, then you are in trouble.
Are you hearing an endless humming sound? That annoying ringing sound that doesn’t seem to go away when you want it is called tinnitus. Many people who who tinnitus also lose their hearing later on.
If you are having any of the above symptoms, don’t hesitate to go to an Ear Nose Throat specialist or an otolaryngologist.. Don’t let the situation deteriorate. Your hearing may still be saved if a doctor can treat it early. An ENT specialist would know what treatment is best to prevent or heal the problem. Note that not all are curable or even preventable, but with the use of hearing aids and other technology, you can rest assure that you won’t be entirely left in silence.
