I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment of this article. These charities are definitely creating and affirming these types of stereotypes, while trying to tug at the heartstrings of the viewer. Having helped with charity events, particularly for my parents' home country (Philippines), I am very aware of the incomplete picture that most people are presented with, as well as how surprising they find it when they are shown a more complete picture - even as simple as victims smiling, as if they are not supposed to be happy if they are in need of help etc. Many stereotypes to overcome, but possible with one small step at a time!
