Pets Tips #4 – Cows & Ducks
Many pet lovers view their animals, as members of the family, and do everything they can to maintain their physical and emotional well-being. Therefore, it won‘t surprise you that they also look for new and better ways to love and care for their pets and farm animals. So let‘s explore some alternative treatments for your animals.
Today, we have many alternatives at our disposal to keep our furry, fluffy, and feathered friends healthy and happy. The natural pet supplement market has been flooded with products promising amazing health benefits; trying to choose the right one can be overwhelming. Feel free to do your own research or consult your veterinarian before making a final decision. Seek out a holistic veterinarian in your area.
The ideas and alternative treatments presented originate from reliable and researched sources but don‘t hesitate to seek the advice of a holistic veterinarian, when necessary. I would encourage you to always do your own research and get sound advice before taking action.
COWS
1.Udder Soother
Coconut oil provides wonderful soothing moisturizer in the form of udder balm for your cows. Simply apply as you would any other udder balm. Cracked teats are very uncomfortable for the cow and provide an ideal environment for a bacterial infection.
2. Water Troughs
In areas where winters are cold, a rubber ball floating in the water trough will keep the water from freezing.
3. Fly Spray
Combine all the ingredients into a spray bottle and shake it well. Avoid spraying into eyes and ears. If you are going to make a large amount at once, you will need to store it in a dark container because the oils lose their efficacy too quickly when stored in a clear plastic container.
• 5 cups of water
• 2 cups of Apple cider vinegar
• 1 cup Mineral oil or Olive oil
• 1 tbsp. Liquid soap
• 10 drops Lemongrass essential oil
• 10 drops Orange essential oil
• 10 drops Eucalyptus essential oil
• 5 drops Peppermint Essential Oil.
DIARRHOEA TREATMENT OF LIVESTOCK
Blackberry root tea can be used to treat diarrhea. The roots can be reused a few times or frozen for later use.
• Put a handful of blackberry roots in a saucepan and cover with water.
• Bring to a boil and simmer for 20-30 minutes.
• Cool to room temperature and remove the roots.
• Give this tea to your sick animal every few hours until symptoms resolve..
DUCKS
At about 8 weeks of age, start feeding your duckling‘s treats and supplements. The treats should be chopped, finely cut or mashed for ducklings. Keep an eye on them when you first introduce them to new foods and keep in mind that their poop will change in colour and consistency. This will return to normal if you stop feeding those treats.
Vegetables can be fed to ducklings/ducks on a daily basis, preferably raw and chopped small.
Here are some veggies you can feed your ducklings:
• Beets - Cooked or uncooked
• Bell peppers - Red, yellow, orange, or green. Remove the core, seeds, and stem before
chopping into small pieces.
• Broccoli - Stems and tops can be fed either raw or cooked
• Brussels sprouts – Stems and tops can be fed either raw or cooked
• Cabbage – Stems and tops can be fed either raw or cooked
• Cauliflower - Stems and tops can be fed either raw or cooked
• Cucumber- Raw, peeled or unpeeled
• Corn - off the cob, cooked or uncooked
• Lettuces - Romaine, Bib, Butter, Radicchio
• Peas - Preferably fresh or frozen/thawed
• Squash, butternut, pumpkin etc. - Cooked or uncooked
• Zucchini - Peeled or unpeeled.

I am offering a safe and natural alternative to conventional treatment, but these recipes, ideas and treatment should not be misconstrued or substituted for medical advice. Please always proceed with caution and test it first on a small area, or in small quantities, if you are uncertain. Should you suspect that you or your animal have a medical problem, I urge you to seek professional advice.
