In Michigan they just recently opened us up to some of the higher grade of fireworks. Due to that, we had all kinds of idiots lighting different things off all the time. Now they have restrictions in place to major national holidays, the day before and the day after. It helps a bit, but you still have people that go crazy. Our dog gets pretty scared as well. We bought her a thundershirt a long time ago hoping that would help, but it really doesn't. Now we just stay home with her or make sure we take her with us camping on the 4th. As long as no one in our neighborhood lights them off the sound from the big shows is pretty muffled. We don't crate her when we are away so she can always go down in the basement and avoid some of the noise. I totally understand and agree with your thinking about New Years!
