Got A Website – You need your own blog to start!

in #blog5 years ago (edited)

If you could spend your time working on your website, is there really a compelling reason to start a blog? Is a blog a marketing tool as effective as a traditional website? It depends on everything.

Whether or not you're supposed to start your own blog depends largely on how you're going to use your blog. For strictly social reasons, many bloggers blog; others use their blogs for productive purposes; and some bloggers combine socializing and being productive in a single blog.

If your intention is to socialize when you start a blog, you will be most successful in creating your blog at one of the high-traffic social networking sites like MySpace and opening it up for comments so that you can start a dialog with your readers.

On the other hand, asking yourself why you should start your own blog takes on added importance if you want a productive blog, because anyone who keeps a productive blog will have to make a commitment of time if they expect the blog to succeed.

If you're considering a productive blog, you'd do well to get away from the social networking arena and set up a blog hosting site like WordPress or Blogger. When you have your blog up and running, when you have an existing website, you don't have to ask yourself why start your own blog?

One time-consuming aspect of keeping a blog is monitoring your blog readers ' comments. While those fresh content may keep your blog radar in the search engine, you may end up with some less than desirable blog posts and even get caught in the midst of battles between your viewers.

Spammers who just want to plug their own websites, blogs, or pet causes are also often abused by blog comments. And if you have to spend a lot of time refereeing warring readers, there's a lot less time for you ll to attend to your blog's marketing aspects.

If you think you can manage it, create a blog that allows you to interact socially with your readers while increasing your productivity by using it. Why?

If you want to run in your industry with the big dogs, you'll have to find some way to communicate that you're ready to do that. Being on your blog to answer your questions is one way.

If you have a firm, defensible, but generally discounted belief about your products, leave a few challenging comments on related blogs, with links to your blog so that those interested can drop by to argue your point. Lure them to your sales page when they arrive on your blog.

Why start a blog if you have a website already? Socializing, becoming more productive, or making socializing more productive. Blogs simply work in ways #websites have never been intended to!
