PROJECT ANNESAYA #2: A helping HAND for the HANDicapped patients

in #blog7 years ago (edited)

People with disabilities or what we called PWDs are the ones who often don't visit in our health center to seek for health services. This is probably associated with inferiority due to their mental or physical impairment. As nurses WE CARE patients EQUALLY. Thus, we would like to extend our helping hands to provide them as well with accessible health services and free grocery items.

We have been planning this for several days. We had visited the houses of PWDs one by one to spread out the announcement. We prepared the programme including the set ups that would gather them in a multi-purpose hall.

In collaboration with @rachelrach25, we were heading to our latest PROJECT ANNESAYA called: "A helping HAND for the HANDicapped patients."

I was not able to attend the actual activity because I was having an important seminar to attend to that was simultaneously booked with our activity. So I asked my co-nurse and steemian @rachelrach25 to conduct the programme.

ACTIVITIES:

PROFILING

During our activity, we interviewed the handicapped patients one by one to create an individual profile for our legal references including the cause and nature of their physical disability. For those who have Mental or Intelectual impairment, we asked their significant other (guardian) to answer for the interview.

HEALTH ASSESSMENT

After making a master list of PWD patients for the year 2017, we conducted vital signs taking, including the checking of blood sugar levels and measuring of vital statistics and weight. If we would find the patient ill, we would refer them to Public Physicians for free medical consultation and treatment.

PICTURE TAKING

Most of my handicapped patients are poor and we found out that they had difficulties in reaching out charitable organizations for financial assistance. So we took pictures of them one by one then attached to their individual profiles. We would provide extra document for each of them as personal copy. The furnished patient profiles would then be forwarded to Department of Health.

So these are the pictures of some of my PWD clients: (NOTE: These clients agreed that I can state their names in my blog)

This nice guy is blind and with developmental delay. What's interesting about him is that he can sing.
This teen is very sweet and friendly. He has Down's Syndrome.
I feel sad for this little guy for he has been enduring long-term colostomy on his left abdomen since he was born. His parents could not afford for a surgical repair of his Imperforated Anus so what they have been doing all this time is they modified a rather kind of colostomy bag which is obviously unhygienic. Colostomy bag alone is too expensive for them that they could not even afford a descent living.
This young child suffered with a kind of Extrapulmonary Tuberculosis called, Pott's disease. As one of the manifestations of the disease, the child could no longer walk due to swollen knees. His mother has to carry him all the time like a baby.

DISTRIBUTION OF GOODS

Because I have strong compassion for those who are in need, me and rachel donated goods and grocery items for them which were evenly distributed. We merged our contributions to help out these clients.

UNTIL NEXT TIME...

Special Thanks to my friend @rachelrach25 who helped me a lot in making all of my plans happen

Hi,
I sent you a message in steemchat. Check it out when you can. X

Hi @annesaya
I sent this post to a couple of kids organisations. Prompted by the little boy with the colostomy.
I heard back from one. It isn't clear if they can help him, but they are interested in hearing from you about children who could benefit from their services. They have limitations to what they offer.
I sent you more info in steem chat.
