THE VIRGIN MARY OF BUDDHISM
The traffic was heavy along the South Super Highway in Makati, Philippines so I walked instead of riding a jeepney (a type of mass transportation). Just before reaching Edsa, I noticed this statue just outside the shop of what turned out to be an antique shop. I hurriedly proceeded to the relic. A robust guy came out as he noticed that I took a picture of the said statue. He smiled and I said hi! We spoke a little bit and told him that I was admiring his relic. He said that its an heirloom, from a very rich family and sold it to him since the original owner has died. I said it's sad that the people who inherited the relic didn't give same value to it as the original owner. He replied "I'm selling it for $15,000.00. The price is reasonable considering the age of the relic. I could only say the word "wow!" I was still processing what he said with the price when he asked me to come in his shop so we can have coffee. I obliged, and he showed me some of his collections/merchandise. We got along so quick since we share the same passion for old things/relic. Not wanting to abuse his kindness and hospitality, I didn't ask him if I can take pictures of his collection. After a few minutes of finishing my coffee I told him that I needed to leave already since I need to be in a meeting and promised him that whenever I get back to Manila I'll pay him another visit. He has lots of interesting things that is either excavated, salvaged under the sea and heirloom.
QUAN YING

QUAN YIN meaning "observing the sounds (the cries) of the human world" or or also known as the Merciful Goddess, is one of the deitise that you would normally see on chinese altars. She was originally male until the 12th century and has evolved she has been compared to the Virgin Mary of the christians. She's the chinese patron of the fishermen. She's also the the goddess of Hong kong (Kwun Yum), Japan (kanzzeon), Korea (Gwan-eum), Thailand (Kwan-eim) and Vietnam (Quan Am).
In chinese buddhism the name Quan ying is synonymous to Avelokitesvara, the pinnacle of mercy and compassion, kindness and love.
