After CASH we will have GOLD, BTC GOLD

What is Bitcoin Gold?

Is the resulting currency, which will come with the second bitcoin hard fork of the year, after the BCH hard fork. Planned launch is the 25th of October and coins shall be available with the start of 1st of November.

Difference

Main difference is the proof-of-work change from bitcoin's SHA256 to Equihash, a memory-hard algorithm that is ASIC-resistant and optimized for GPU mining. This will make the big miners less relevant.
Even Steemit used Equihash for the initial mined STEEM: https://www.steemithelp.net/new-page-3/

As the main developer "h4x" states on the BCG slack channel, the main goal is to bring more smaller miners into play and make it a truly decentralize blockchain, as today big mining farms control the market.

Who is behind the fork?

The initiative comes from a mining company called LightningASIC, which is located in Hong Kong. It is a mining hardware provider especially for LTC mining. The CEO of LightningASIC and the leader of the project leader is Jack Liao. His linkedin profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jack-liao-4a0b7842/

This is interesting that a producer of ASIC mining equipment wants to implement such a hard fork.

As we can see this hard fork is also started from China by a mining equipment producer. For BCH it was Bitmain.

How to get BTG?

Like with the BCH hard fork, keep your BTC in a secure wallet on the 25th of October, not in the exchanges, as exchanges are not obliged to give you the produced currency.

Opportunity

Let's put it this way, it will be free cryptos. Even if it does not hit the success of BCH, where BCH is now at 12% of the market value of BTC, you will get free cryptos. It is interesting to see the development of BCG and also of BCH after the hard fork.

Risk for BCG

  • As there is not much information about the project available, there are a lot of question open, like what is the status of the project. The team behind is a mystery.

  • The discussion about the block height is still running.
    What we know is that:
"It is a minimalist fork of the Bitcoin Core codebase in the spirit of litecoin – only a few conservative modifications," This was said by "h4x" which is the anonymous lead developer of the project.

  • Another point is that this hard fork does not have the media power as the other one and so the publicity is reduced. This will probably lead to a lower initial price for BCG compared to BCH

Conclussion

It is another split in the world of the Bitcoin blockchain. Time will tell if it will benefit the ecosystem. Some think such hard forks are done mostly for money, others see it as a natural evolution.
For the short time the ones who hold BTC can benefit from the hard fork. For the long run, there are a lot of questions open, the main affecting the credibility of BTC and it's offspring.

Awesome! except I don't think I will be holding many bitcoins because I spent all them all on STEEM!

I'm thinking about converting a good chunk of my BCG into Steem after the price gets discovered a bit for it after launch. I held my BCH but might divest a bit of that into Steem soon.

Thats a good plan! Either way we win!

I like that plan @matt-a.

I dont have a lot of BTC but what I do have, if the BCG is worth even a few hundred per BTC coin, then I will also move it to Steem.

STEEM is certainly a good investment!

Lucky you ,haha ,I dont have that many of them to spend here on steemit 😎📈💰💰

Amazing ...mention steem positively and get money ...I will try ...:)
I'm going to sell my house and buy all the STEEM possible ..
Steem to the MOON..!!!!!

So basically anyone with enough hash power can hard fork as they please.. I don’t get it

I don´t think there will be any exchange who will list those "bitcoin gold" tokens.

Hi adsactly,
Thanks for sharing

I hope this fork is not going to happen because it would mean more forks in the future and more competition for the original bitcoin.

yes me too. Main question is what does it mean for credibility of BTC? I mean in every beginners guide you can read Bitcoins are limited too (what ever). But if there come splits every few month ... amount of coins is endless ... hm

thank you for awareness.

I don't mind Hard Forks at all. @adsactly the best thing about the forks is that it creates a BUZZ in the Crypto World and really to be honest it is a great way to add even more value to your holdings.....

I was researching the matter and didnt find a objective post with all the info about Bitcoin Gold.
Thanks for sharing

So will this fork result in the ownership of equal tokens like the BTC and BCH did? If I have 5 BTC will I have 5 of each BTC and BTG after the fork?

I just want to be clear as a mortgage is in play here.

Just my two STEEMS Worth.

Yes, but please take in account not to hold them on any exchange, just in BTC wallets like Mycelium or Airbitz.

I'm wondering if there is much community support or demand for this hardfork. If the exchanges aren't talking about supporting it, it's not likely to gain traction. I'm also interested in hearing about the upcoming ETH fork.
