The Group Stage analysis: Group E

The world cup started already! The biggest sports event of the year and we decided to bring you a small analysis of the 8 world cup groups and our predictions of how good they´ll do.

Now, we bring you Group D.

BRAZIL

When someone says Brazil we automatically think of football, even though this beautiful sport was invented in England, the Brazilians have taken charge of appropriating the essence of this sport, delighting thousands of people over many generations with the "Joga Bonito" executed over the years by figures such as Socrates, Pelé, Zico, Romario, Roberto Carlos, Rivaldo, Ronaldihno, Ronaldo Nazario (not Cristiano Ronaldo of course) and today Neymar has the obligation to honor this great story that accompanies the Amazonians, however the challenge is difficult, because although Brazil today has a large number of stars in its initial 11, it will be difficult to recover from the shame suffered in the last World Cup where they were local and couldn’t avoid the humiliation of the 7 - 1 beat down of the German team.

SWITZERLAND:

Historically, Switzerland has been characterized as a competitive selection, although in fact it hasn’t been able to make the leap of quality to become an elite team and for that reason, although it has great players, it will be difficult to see it advance at the end of the tournament. However, as any football fan knows in a world cup anything can happen and it will remain in the hands of the selected Swiss players to become big names in this sport.

Technical Director: Vladimir Petković

Captain: Stephan Lichtsteiner

World Cup participations: 11

COSTA RICA

The "pura vida" (as it is known to this Central American team) managed to surprise the past World Cup by eliminating two of the most powerful teams in the history of football, Italy and England had to watch the round of 16 from their homes. We don’t underappreciate the great success of Costa Rica, playing good football showed that this sport is played by men (also women), not names. So that performance achieved the international respect that today makes it a favorite to advance in the E group.

Today Costa Rica arrives with a different technical director, a factor that in our opinion will greatly influence their performance because the key of the last World Cup was that they were very well aimed and managed at Brazil 2014, however today they come with a player that offers them a total guarantee in the goal, Keylor Antonio Navas Gamboa, who today is in the top 3 of the best goalkeepers in the world and has 3 consecutive Champions Leagues behind him that confirms it. Let’s see how it goes for the ”ticos” in this World Cup.

Technical Director: Oscar Ramirez

Captain: Bryan Ruiz

Figures: Bryan Ruiz, Keylor Navas

World Cup participations: 5

World Cup champions: None

Estimated stage: Group stage

SERBIA:

Under the argument that in this World Cup there are no favorites, but also considering the collective and individual level of each team, maybe Serbia is the hardest one to beat to advance this stage of groups, however, players in big clubs of Europe cover the unbalanced level that this selection has and will be put to the test players of the size of Nemanja Matic, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Sergej Milinković-Savić, Branislav Ivanovic and company.

The Serbs have long been no longer the powerful Yugoslavia and will have to prove that there is still quality in the Balkan country

Technical Director: Mladen Krstajić

Captain: Aleksandar Kolarov

Figures: Nemanja Matic

World Cup participations: 8 as Yugoslavia, 2 as Serbia and Montenegro and 2 as Serbia

World Cup champions: None

Estimated stage: Groups

This is easy pick. Brazil and Swiss

The brazilian squad is looking promising for the world.

I think Brazil and Costa Rica will pass

This one is quite difficult because both Switzerland and Serbia have 50/50 chances to go through.
