My 2018: Achievements and Failures - From errors one learns
Hey fellow Steemians, good to have you here.
I found this post: CONTEST! My 2018: Achievements and Failures | 100 STEEM in Prizes.
I thought it is a nice opportunity to review my year and share some experiences I made.
Let’s get right into it:
Achievement & Failure
Achievement 1
I started my first real job. Woooohooo! After several years of studying in Vienna, Austria, and University of Groningen, Netherlands, I started my career. I first made an internship in Coventry, England, before I started to work fulltime in a management consulting company in Munich, Germany. I was really excited to start my “new life” and also a bit nervous since it was the first real job.
I have been working for 9 months now and I can say work is much more fun than I expected it to be. I can say about myself that I am another of kind of consultant than the stereotype because I truly care about our clients and try my best to accomplish a superb result. Instead of taking the same blueprint as a solution for everyone, I try to be creative and think of different ways to satisfy the customer.
Failure 1
Honestly, I have to say that I am a person that needs some time to get comfortable with my surroundings and the new persons I engage with. At my job it took me several months to fully “arrive” in a brand-new setting. This being mentioned my cautious approach begins by observing the scene, holding my true self a bit back and experiencing the contrasting situation.
I observed several inefficient processes inside my company and failed to communicate it effectively to my supervisors. Stuck with fear it took me 6 months before I openly shared my knowledge with my bosses. Not directly communicating the obstacles I was seeing for a longer period, made me angry which blocked my creativity.
After 6 months I finally opened myself with great feedback from my superiors. They thanked me that I openly shared pain points and directly pointed on them. This experience made me realize that it is important to express your ideas before they start to block you.
Learning: Don’t be afraid to communicate the things you observe
Achievement 2
On my summer holiday I learned how to sail on the ocean and improved my spiritual tools to support people that suffer. Sounds like a bummer, right? The holiday consisted of two different parts, the first one was the sailing course for one week and the second one was one week of workshops for the soul.
It was the first holiday which I did on my own. As I told my friends most of them were suspicious claiming that would not be cool. I have to say it is completely the opposite. Traveling on your own helps you to understand yourself on different levels because most of the time you are alone and you have to deal with yourself.
Coming back to my trip: Sailing was an incredible experience. The silence of the ocean when nothing is around you, the force of strong wind and gigantic waves and the freedom to sail wherever you want to go is just an amazing experience.
Working on a spiritual level let me realize once again that all of us have way more skills than we can think of. Sensible awareness let you feel the pain people around us withstand not knowing how they should solve their issues. I love to help people and try to relief them from pain whenever I can so that they can enjoy their time on this planet.
Failure 2
I started to be interested in spiritual work 10 years ago. Since then I have been doing several seminars and improved my skill to actively help people. In the really early stages I was completely unconvinced and questioned “this bullshit” so many times. Thanks to my mum I kept on going and saw the beautiful side of this work. Sadly, I did not do many things concerning this topic this year. The seminar let me realize that I should engage myself more actively, to help people solve their issues.
Furthermore, I did not pass the sailing test. On the other side I have a valid reason to go back and start the adventure again 😊
Lesson learned: Do not lose sight of important things
Achievement 3
My third achievement this year was that I joined this wonderful community. Although, I recently became active, I like the vibe around Steemit. Not convinced of my own creativity and writing skills, I started to blog on a frequent basis. I never believed that I would appreciate it that much.
Besides that, I improved my writing skills. In high school my English teachers got frustrated and my average grades were a 4. Continuously engaging with wonderful people on this platform let me master the language each day a little bit better. When I am looking back to my first entries, I am proud of the process I made in that short time frame.
Above all, Steemit enhanced my productivity. I set myself the goal to actively participate in this community. This drill brought me to the point that I start to believe in myself trying the things I like. I am currently thinking about trying myself in making videos, pictures and experimenting with some kind of music.
Basically I want to experience all the things I was afraid of because I thought I am not a crative person.
Failure 3
It took me some time to actually believe in myself and creating a will to start things up. Earlier this year I was kind of a couch potato, playing video games and chilling most of the times. Do not get me wrong from time to time this is super important and I still like it, but I didn’t like the feeling when I finished the day without achieving something.
It does not mean that it always has to be something big, but simply reading some paragraphs of a book, learn some vocabulary, do some sports or other things can give you a better feeling when you go to sleep
Lesson learned: Do not dream about your goals, start creating them in little steps each day
