Official Recap of the Blockchain Saturday Event.

in #blockchainsaturday6 years ago

Blockchain Saturday finally held this past Saturday, and it is safe to say that it was a success. The event was slated to hold on the 23rd of February, but due to the postponement of the Nigerian General Elections, the meet-up had to be moved to the 2nd March 2019. The turn was great, despite several intending participants missing out due to security concerns, we still had a packed venue.

The event which held in a neighbouring city around Lagos, saw me and part of the team embarking on a short road trip to Ibadan. It was an exciting and fun trip as we had little chitchats, selfies and snacks on the way there, there were music and everything else that makes road trips so much fun.

Beam Presentation - Agbona Igwemoh

Although we encountered a little trip jam on our way out of the city, we still arrived at our destination an hour earlier. We hit the ground running as Sushie (The Mc) Introduced me and I am to make a presentation on a privacy project called Beam. A project that I am an Ambassador for, and was more than happy to talk about. The participants were engaging and inquisitive to learn as much as they could about the project, and other projects that came after me.

Beam is a MimbleWimble based project, and it is poised to be the go-to privacy token as it solves the project of scalability, which most privacy tokens are challenged with. The project was launched sometime in January, and it has received remarkable feedback from the cryptocurrency community.

Meet Destiny Marshall, the Blockchain Ambassador

One can easily call Destiny Marshal @marshalllife the blockchain hustler, he is deeply involved with a lot of blockchain projects, and he is one of the founding members of the Whaleshares community. He is deeply respected across the blockchain community both in Nigeria and beyond. During the past meet-up, @marshalllife represented two projects, Enumivo and Hozien, formerly known as Zen.

The co-founder of Horizen was live on Skype, where he spoke about the vision of the company and the progress the team is making in terms of execution. This session was moderated by @marshalllife, as he is an ambassador for the project. During the Skype session, we learnt that Horizen is also a privacy token, similar to Beam.

After the Skype session, Marshall then made a presentation of Enumivo, and it's work on social justice. The presentation was quite brief which includes a brief video presentation and a few use cases of Enumivo and how their system works. It was quite an engaging session, as participants had a lot of questions about the project, as there are a lot of benefits attached to engagement on the Enumivo platform.

Yensesa - The Exchange for the Mas-chains - Bejide Motunrayo @bookoons

Yensesa.com is a progressive platform currently serving the Mas-chains communities in Africa, especially Nigeria. The brand has an active presence across the mas-chains network and enjoys a lot of patronage from the community. Representing Yensesa during the event was @bookons, a well-respected figure in the community, and her presentation was well received as she attended to a number of queries to their existing customers in the audience.

The presentation quickly turned into a demo, and she made practical presentations on how to carry out certain actions on the platform. Free Yent tokens are available for participants of the event, as well as Horizen tokens.

Introducing AgricBlock - Flora Ekwere @florae

Arguably the most engaging session as the community manager for Agricblock.io took the stage as she makes a case for the project which she represents. Agricultural practices in Africa is obsolete, as there are several loopholes in the supply chain, and one of the ways of solving some of the Agro challenges could be with the use of blockchain technology. Creating a marketplace where farmers can access the market directly, hereby making middlemen irrelevant, as well as creating a knowledge sharing and rewarding platform.

There were a number of questions from the audience directed towards the @florae, who did a great job answering them with relative ease. The Agric Economics and Extension graduate loves what she does, and her enthusiasm in engaging questions and conversations within the confines and agriculture and the blockchain is what made her presentation so exciting!

Making Money via the Blockchain (Panel Discussion) - @jotmax @pangoli and Tojukaka

IMG_0235.jpg

The panel discussion was moderated by @jotmax, and the panellists were @pangoli and @Tojukaka respected figures within the crypto community, especially the mas-chains communities. And the conversation was centred around how one can delve into the crypto space with little to no capital. The conversation also touched at how one can earn while on the space, and the panellists did a great job at walking the participants through Steemit, Whaleshares and other mas-chains.

There were participants that knew nothing about the blockchain, and how it worked. And the picture to the right shows @pangoli explaining blockchain technology with a book, he explains the leaves as the blocks, and the staple in the middle holding all the leaves together as the chain. So, the leaves (blocks) may contain important information like addresses, transactional pieces information etc. while the staple (chain) serves as the point of reference connecting the previous leave (block) to the next one.

The discussion was met by several more questions from the audience, which the panellist did great to answer. @jotmax moderated the session with such grace, that made moderating look so easy. All in all, it was an educative and highly interactive session.

Careers, Survival, Succeeding with Blockchain technology - Emmanuel Ititim

Emmanuel Ititim is widely respected a crypto teacher, his deep understanding of the space is second to a selected few in the entire community. It is no surprise that he was chosen to handle the session that takes everyone in the audience on a journey through blockchain space, in search of career opportunities, problems to solve, tokens with high possibility of mooning, and the general trend of the industry.

There were questions flying around, the presentation soon morphed into a conversation around several aspects of cryptocurrency. He spoke about the need for ambassadors, community activities to boost awareness about a token.

In Summary
The Blockchain Saturday event was a success, as it was both educative and engaging. Plus, there were a number of freebies given to participants, freebies such as t-shirts, keyholders, webcam protector, stickers and a lot of tokens like MET tokens, Yents, Zen, JNT and a few others. If you were part of the meet-up, and yet to get instructions on how to receive your tokens, join our official WhatsApp group here for more information.
