The DELTA SUMMIT in Malta has been one of the most amazing blockchain events of 2018. Dr. Zoltan Toth and Dr. Szabolcs Hargittay, partners of Harglaw and founders of the Hungarian Cryptocurrency Foundation attended the conference and exhibition and were thrilled by its vibe.

Representing our law firm and also the Hungarian Cryptocurrency Foundation, we have returned with valuable experiences and multiple new business and advisory relations from Malta. It was clearly amazing to see the traction of this small nation in the field of blockchain and distributed ledger technology. DELTA SUMMIT was absolutely sold out, and almost 3700 persons have registered as attendees.

We have visited many blockchain conferences during the previous months, and we were glad to see the number of “suits” appearing on DELTA SUMMIT. The keynote speech of the event was held by the Prime Minister of Malta, and a number of government organizations were present among the exhibitors, speakers and panelists. Besides the regulators, a good number of advisory firms and law offices also presented their services, which shows the clear intention of Malta to become a pioneer in solid regulation of the cryptoworld.

Regulation is essential, as regulation will lead the way to broad adoption. The world of blockchain and cryptocurrency startups have their revolutionaries and it is amazing how their fresh energy is pushing this sector towards success. However, to secure prudent integration into the global business world, the sector will need to be duly governed by laws and rules.

Malta, the “Blockchain Island” as it is declaring itself is doing an amazing job. Within less than a year, this country adopted solid regulations for cryptoexchanges, initial coin offerings, and also collective investment vehicles related to crypto investments. Wow. But really, WOW!

We were introduced to core employees of the Malta Financial Services Authority, and we discussed how small nations — like also Hungary — can build a future on proactive technology regulation.

Both as the lawyers of Harglaw and as founding leaders of the Hungarian Cryptocurrency Foundation we will work on building close cooperation with Maltese regulatory and advisory partners. Malta is on its path to become the capital of blockchain, and we will stay close and work closely with these bright and proactive professionals.

Erős a gyanúm, hogy hiába a technológiai felfutás, a hazai "gazdasági" környezet miatt itt nem lesz előremutató szabályozás, vagy támogatói környezet.

De ne legyen igazam.

Köszi a választ. Málta remek példa arra, hogy egy kicsi, innovatív ország hogyan tud komoly nemzetközi tőkét vonzó projekteket bevonzani. Évtizedes tapasztalatuk van benne, akár adójog, akár szerencsejáték területén. Magyarországnak komoly gazdasági érdeke lenne a blockchain szabályozás hasonlóan progresszív megközelítése.

Definitely not something that would make me proud...
