What you don't know about blockchain: Consensus: how does it work? by Kevin Loaec of ChainSmiths Consultancy team
What we'll do
Kevin Loaec will give a presentation on one of the core mechanism of "blockchain", more specifically on the Bitcoin protocol but also used by the other non-scammy chains.
As you might know, Kevin very rarely speaks at public events outside of panel discussions. This is an opportunity to really learn something about the tech, from somebody who have been playing with it for a while.
The theme of this talk is "Consensus", and will cover the different forces at play when it comes to enforcing a single "truth", a single ledger, in a peer-to-peer protocol with no governance or authority... in an adversarial context.
As often with Kevin, the talk will be in plain English with no maths/code/bullshit in the slides. You don't need a Computer Science background to attend, but even the most technical attendees should learn quite a bit!
Kevin Loaec is the Managing Director at Chainsmiths, an Irish blockchain consulting company with a sister company in Lisbon acting as its research lab.
Kevin previously co-founded Signatur, an hardware and infrastructure startup focusing on Bitcoin security.
In Lisbon, he launched the idea of a "crypto coffee shop", that evolved and became The Block when other investors joined the adventure.
Kevin calls himself a Bitcoin maximalist, but his long-time involvement had him learn quite a bit about the other blockchain protocols too.
