Hello, my name is Andrius Putna,
I am the CEO of BitDegree, and I would like to tell you a little more about who we are and what we do.
BitDegree is a smart incentives based education platform, which aims to revolutionise education in the tech sector through gamification and rewarding students for their progress.
We believe that what is currently taught at higher education institutions across the world does not prepare tech students with the necessary skills they need to find meaningful employment in their field upon graduation.
This is where BitDegree comes in.
At BitDegree, we believe students should be rewarded for their efforts. This is why we have chosen to base it on blockchain, because it allows students to earn tokens when they make progress. Blockchain’s open-source nature will also allow students and course conveners to transparently check their progress.
If you’re reading this, we guess you know what gamification is. However, if you don’t, the simplest explanation is that it’s a way of using technology to turn a boring topic into a game that makes the student feel valued. We will do this by basing BitDegree on the Octalysis framework. This will make studying one of the I.T. courses we offer as fun as earning XP and levelling up in your favourite video game. We like to think of BitDegree as something similar to Minecraft, but for tech education.
Fun aside though, we believe that our approach of using smart incentives, fun, plus reward-based learning will help revolutionise education, and address the following problems in the tech industry — the lack of preparation for tech students in higher education, the difficulties businesses face in attracting and retaining top tech talent, plus the low course completion rate within the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) industry.
Why? because BitDegree’s transparent nature will allow companies to seek, sponsor, and motivate potential employees through rewards.
To let you know more about me, I have been a software engineer for more than a decade. Since 2010, I have also been responsible for implementing the roadmap at Hostinger, one of the largest web hosting companies around. Whilst not everyone at BitDegree has the same ‘tech’ background as I do, all of us share the same belief that education is a universal right, and education can be better. This is why we will work tirelessly to achieve our goals.
That’s everything from me now, but we will regularly be updating our blog and feel free to get in touch with us using any of the links below.
Cheers,
— Andrius
