Bandz: The Future of Decentralized Internet
The Internet
The internet have bought unparalleled changes to the world and our lives since its inception in the1950s. From the simple concept of wide area networking to becoming the global phenomena we know today.
The internet's usefulness cannot be stressed enough. It brought us things like e-mails where we could recieved messages at lightning fast speed, no longer do we have to wait for days, weeks, and months for our letters to arrive. It also allows us to communicate face to face through video calls. The internet itself is a sea of knowledge where we could find information on almost anything with mere press of a button.
The internet even allow us to buy and sell things without the need to leave our houses. Entertainment had also been tranformed by the internet. Before we need to go to malls, theater and such to watch movies, buy or rent music CDs, DVDs, and video games. But now we could just watch, listen, download and buy them online.
The internet had bought us convenience that we've never thought possible before, and it's not stopping there as new functions and concepts are being brought to fruition as I write this article.
Currently, the internet had become an integral part of our society. Many of us can no longer go back to the days were the internet does not exist.
But despite all of the changes and convenience the internet brought, it is not perfect. Like most things invented by man, it has its own share of problems and limitations. Among them availability, cost and privacy are of great concern.
What is Bandz?
Bandz is a platform whose aim is to decentralized the internet, make it more affordable, available, and secure, while giving its consumers full control of the bandwith they consume at the same time. To realize this, Bandz will utilize the power of the Blockchain technology.
Bandz is derived from the word "bandwidth", and bandwidth is synonymous to the internet itself. Bandwidth is a commodity that allows us access to the internet, but this commodity is held in the hands of companies or corporations that dictates the amount of bandwidth we can consume. Thus leaving us very little control over the bandwidth.
To address this issue Bandz plans to establish a robust, global extranet network where users can purchase bandwidths with the Bandz token.
Bandz has three roles for nodes. They are: providers, consumers and gateways
The provider nodes kick out bandwidth from BandZ internal traffic to the outer world internet. The consumer nodes accept application traffic (socks5, iptables, vpn, etc) and send it to providers. The gateway nodes provide services like STUN, TURN and GeoIP resolution, receiving a tip for their services. All participants can be any combination of nodes at any given time. Bandz Website
Bandz Token
The Bandz token is the heart of the Bandz network. It's a token useable only on the Bandz platform. The token's main purpose is to incentivize the bandwidth, thus allowing users to purchase bandwidth as they pleased.
The Bandz token's function is similar to other tokens in the Blockchain, but unlike other tokens where its value is based on market speculations the Bandz token's value depends on market demands.
Another thing to note is that the Bandz token is not mineable but released on predetermine dates.
Availability and Cost
As I mentioned earlier, despite the internet being an integral part of our modern society, there are large areas in the world where the availability of the internet is limited and even when it is available it is unbelievably slow and expensive.
For example on the Philippines where I live, not only is our internet infrastructure one of the slowest in Asia, it is also one if the most expensive. The reason for this is the two giant telecommunication companies that are monopolizing the industry, dictating the speed and cost of our internet services.
If Bandz could live up to even half of its promises then our situation could be greatly improved, allowing us to have more affordable access to faster internet services. This is one of the reasons I'm looking forward to Bandz's successful launch.
Another case where availability and cost is an issue is if one travels abroad. And it's not just because the region they are travelling to have bad internet infrastructure but because the only way one can get internet is through public Wi-FI, buying a local internet plan and Roaming. Among the above mentioned source, Roaming is undoubtedly the most expensive.
Fortunately, Bandz network can solve such an issue with ease. Once launched globally Bandz user can just buy bandwidth with the Bandz token and use it anywhere and anytime they pleased.
Privacy and Security
The issue of privacy and security had plague the internet for decades. Though a regular ISP provider have their own privacy and security measures like a firewall, it is not enough to insure the safety of their customers personal and financial data.
A talented programmer and hacker can easily bypass such protection if given enough time. It's not uncommon for hackers to find vulnerabilities on an ISP provider's system and breach it, successfully stealing sensitive informations. Such cases had been reported many times over the years.
Because of such events a number of internet users had taken protecting their personal data with their own hands very seriously. Amongst the many method they used, using a VPN is one of the most popular. With a VPN one can hide their IPs and real locations easily—reducing the risk of their data being stolen.
Unfortunately, even this method have its flaws. That's because VPN services usually requires one to register and pay to use their services, and this is where the problem lies. If the VPN provider you choose secretly sell or give away your private data then their is pretty much nothing one can do.
Bandz knows that privacy is one of our basic rights as human. Therefore, Bandz have their very own VPN services that can be purchased with the Bandz token without the need ro register or give your private data. Solving the issue completely.
Another thing is that Bandz is powered by the Blockchain technology and the Blockchain is incredibly difficult to defraud. That alone adds another layer of security.
Conclusion
Bandz promises to decentralize the internet, the same internet that powered the blockchain. If this promise came to fruition then the internet would be like a phoenix undergoing rebirth. And with this rebirth, not only can the world have access to a more affordable and secure internet connection, it will also allow the Blockchain to take the next step.
