What are the potentials for Po.et vs Steemit?

in #blockchain6 years ago

Po.et is building an open, universal ledger that records immutable and timestamped information about creative content and uses open protocols designed for interoperability with current industry standards in media and publishing. In other words, it uses the blockchain to timestamp who created what and published it when online.

It's a fascinating application of the blockchain. The system establishes attribution and builds on a creator's reputation. Not bad.

But isn't Steemit basically already doing that? And didn't it already add a gamification component?

Po.et's blog argues that it's different from Steemit in that Steemit only awards authors on its site. What happens if steemit.com loses all traffic? Or the site goes down? Sorry authors, you're screwed if that happens.

I can't help but think that's a weak differentiation from Steemit though--seems to me like Steemit is more like a social network (think B2C, like Facebook) whereas Po.et might have more practical B2B applications--in other words, Po.et might be great for businesses, but not for individuals.

I'm curious what people think on this very quick musing on Po.et. I'm disheartened that its CEO, Jarrod Dicker, is leaving the project for the Washington Post--that's a pretty major indication that the project may fail.

What do you think? Is Po.et a competitor to Steemit? Do they complement each other? What should content writers think about when deciding which platform(s) to use?

Looking forward to your thoughts! If you hadn't thought about this before and/or enjoyed what you read, don't forget to upvote and resteem!
