Anybody out on Steemit to join blockchain technology carbon sequestration regenerative agriculture project?
Dear community.
This post is an important shout out to interested folks who have knowlege about blockchain technology AND a heart for regenerative agriculture.
Richard Perkins met his friend Christian Shearer in Thailand who is developing an industry standard blockchain based token system for carbon sequestration in regenerative agriculture. Its a system for validation as well as for smart contract payouts. Christian Shearer and his team are deep into the start phase of the project and also about to join ventures with the Alan Savory Institute to possibly "start at a sprint".
If anyone is interested in interaction or coworking with the team you can visit their webpage www.regen.network and "Join the Conversation" via the Riot.chat-Button on the home page.
Here is the link to the exciting video where Richard Perkins talks to Christian Shearer and where blockchain and agriculture meet.
Please spreading the word, especially to people who have access and understanding of both worlds to join building this important part of the solution. Blockchain PLUS Agriculture. Help to connect the right people from the STEEMIT community to this promising project, that might one day validate "The Paris Agreement".
All the best.
Moritz
Christian Shearer's idea is the next big step in kickstarting regenerative agriculture world wide. I sincerely thank you for this information!
I am curious, are you one of Richard's patrons on patreon? This video hasn't been posted publicly on youtube.
Dear @gheambyt.
Yes I am supporting Richard on Patreon. I learned so much from him, he is so extremely generous with his precious knowlege, that there was no chance not to support him.
I also know that the video was not yet completely public, but as the "share" option was working I gave it a try. I guess this kind of information could not be out to everyone early enough. Especially out to this blockchain community. I know I was acting against the rules, yet Richard is on his time out in Thailand and it could take weeks till the video gets unlocked for the YouTube public. I just felt too excited to share it.
I hope you understand... 😅
I don't blame you for posting it, i'm thanking you.
Have you signed up to his online course?
I was thinking of enrolling in his self lead course, but i decided to spend the 1000 euro on my new orchard.
No I didn't. I just finished my first PDC last year and was in need to take some time over the next years to apply what I learned. Also Richards course is a course that enables you to actually make a living from a regenerativ agriculture enterprise. It's tempting, yet until now I prefer to apply general Prermaculture knowlege and principles to me and my families every day life.
Plus: Richards Sweden standards are quite expencive for my life style... So I agree that the money invested in an orchyard would make more sence. Here in Portugal you will get a few hundret trees for that money.
Hy I know i'm going to be offtopic but if you are interested i've write my introduction post. I wish you a nice day.
This is super interesting! I am currently writing my thesis about blockchain and sustainable forestry. I am going to read about this :) Thanks!
Superb! Maybe you get in touch with them and even participate!
I am very interested, thank you so much! I'm new to steemit and fairly early in my permaculture education. Truly steemit is at it's best bringing interesting subjects like this together. Cheers!
Absolutely @kk8cookie. But I guess one does not have to be a "Permaculturist" to become part of Christian Shearer project. Also anyone with a backgound on #ecology will be able to contribute.
Whaow, what an interesting project!
But I think it will be difficult to set up this because they rely on the development of IoT (which is booming this year). But this project supposes that each farmer who wants to enter into this project need to have a lot these sensor devices to benefits of this network.
But it's a good way to mix up agriculture and blockchain! Thanks for this share.
I guess what he meant was, that only a supervisory grid of farms would have these sensors, if they can afford them. out of this main data the fitting data for the small farms would be extrapolated, so no need to fill all farms with sensors.
Why do you say does it make it difficult if they rely on IoT?
Oh yes, I understand better with the extrapolation.
I said that because there is a lot of startup in IoT which has closed in 2017, it's a new domain which needs to increase itself, especially in energy consuming. And I thought that this project relies entirely on these type of sensor. Anyway.
A project to follow!
Ah.. ok. You where talking about the sensors. All these abbreviations still confuse me..
Interesting. Im fascinated by the ways in which we can utilize blockchain technology to better the world
Absolutely. Me too.
The whole field of blockchain technology is still very new to me, but good ideas like that one I spread even whithout completely understanding blockchain... :D
Its fascinating. Im thinking of enrolling in one of the online courses to learn more
Interesting project I may have to take a look at the whitepaper before even think of joining them. Looks like a good concept from the looks of it.

Hi @myscrible.
Your reply sound promising. Do you think you could contribute?
I just watched the latest video from Ridgedale Permaculture, and I am very impressed. I live in the Pacific Northwest of the USA, around the 45°N, and there has been a lot of talk about carbon sequestration in our large forest tracts, especially working with small woodland property owners. I have been on forest walking tours with those very same companies Christian was talking about, who go to the property and make measurements. The math and data collection involved is very fascinating, but I have wondered how reliable and sustainable is this practice anyway. Especially when considering that "cap and trade" in the USA has caused a lot of companies to feel warranted in their continued unsustainable practice, because they are using carbon like currency. Like the video said, it's a lot of green washing.
On another note, I have been reading more in the blockchain and have been fascinated with the potentials it has in the monetary world, but this open-ledger use for tracking carbon sequestration seems absolutely remarkable. Obviously there is room for improvement, loopholes to close, but the potential for financial incentives to make your farming sustainable blows my mind. The biggest downfall to agriculture was corporate greed, and the motivation of profits above all other considerations, treating limited resources as profits to extract. The only way to get people back into farming, is to bring them financial success while empowering them to be more sustainable.
Approaching this subject more from the regenerative agriculture world, I didn´t think that I´d understand what Christian Shearer´s idea is. Correct me if I´m wrong, but the idea is about creating a transparent system for any small farm to input their data on their carbon sequestering strategies and receive an analysis validated by the network. Well if I got it right, this technology has a huge potential in both inspiring regenerative practices and in gathering important information on practices that work well in any climate or circumstance. Has this technology been released yet I wonder?
On another note: I keep bumping into this Thailand-Portugal connection within the permaculture community. I myself am part thai and I grew up in Thailand. Well, I´m really new to this steemit community and you are the first person that I found interested in permaculture. Not only that, but you know Richard Perkins who actually taught my father , you live in Portugal and I just moved to Lisbon... my conclusion is: let´s be friends.
