Denmark is the home to the worlds largest container shipping company. Shipping goes back a long way in human history and has made the world smaller as resources from different parts of the world can be found anywhere. Container shipping was introduced and it changed the world of shipping, it meant bigger items could be shipped. Over 60% of all the world's seaborne is accounted for by container shipping which amounts to about USD 12 trillion in 2017. The multi million dollar industry has some problems as regards efficiency, digital transformation, ensured profitability and much more.

Blockshipping has a created a platform to solve these problems in the industry its called GSCP (Global Shared Container Platform). The very first purpose of GSCP is to provide a complete blockchain registry of containers, where they are registered and their location at every point in time. This is just like the ship registry.

The goals of GSCP is to be able to achieve the following :

Primary registry and operational payments platform for the global container fleet.
Achieve 60% market coverage in the GSCP registry.
Become the leading solution in the industry as regards to operational fees.
Become the industry's primary IOT platform for real time tracking.

PROBLEMS

Efficiency and Optimised processes
Even though a lot of advancement has been seen in the industry the full potential in terms of efficiency has not been reached. About 20% of all containers in the world are constantly unaccounted for in terms of ownership, location and destination. This means that no ones knows if the containers are loaded or empty and that could mean that an empty container is been driven around from one place to another without it been used. This is a waste of resources that could have been put to better use.

Overcapacity:
There are so many containers with more being added yearly. It has become even more challenging to know how best to use these resources.

Complications in leasing and sale of Containers
The paper flow for leasing or sale of containers is very complicated and frustrating at times. There is a need for a simpler straight forward method.

Outdated IT systems
A technology overhaul is needed has the present ones are outdates, prone to errors and slow.

Collection of fees
The process of collecting fees are slow and often times erroneous.

Tracking
'Real-time' tracking is definitely not in real time. There are lapses here and there to the exact location of a container. It is therefore difficult to track in real time.

Customer Service
The service offered to shippers is very low and not up to standard. They just don't seem to care.

Other problems faced by the industry are security threat, low rates and environmental regulations.

The GSCP platform is designed to help carriers save cost based on real time information enabled by blockchain technology. An ICO for the GSCP platform is been launched to create two tokens

The Container Crypto Coin (CCC): it is an external ERC-20 ethereum token to be sold during ICO and traded on the black market
The Container Platform Token (CPT) : it is an internal token to be used for transactions on private/permissioned GSCP blockchain
