What is Authorizer?
Authorizer Password-Free Authorization System is an authorization system designed to make it easy for websites to restrict access to certain individuals. A website owner can use Authorizer to allow only certain people to access the website. And, they can do it in a way that’s easier, more secure, and more efficient than current username/password technology.
Authorizer’s platform is based on blockchain technology and SSL certificates. Using this technology, Authorizer can grant access to specific individuals while still maintaining anonymity.
The advantage of Authorizer is obvious: it’s a password-free identification system. Instead of typing in a password – and having that password potentially stolen – you can gain access to sites by using an identity locked to your computer or mobile device.
Authorizer is a collaborative project made by the teams behind HashCoins, Aspanta, and EmerCoin. It’s an open, non-commercial project meant to demonstrate the benefits of open blockchain technology.
How does it work?
Blockchain technologies and a bit of magic
Authorizer is a combination of field-tested OAuth2 and Emer blockchain technologies. The blockchain is used to store encrypted information about user certificates and virtual cards.
Workflow:
- User creates a certificate and registers it in blockchain
- Certificate is added to a device browser
- After clicking "Log in using Authorizer" on any website, the user is redirected to oauth.authorizer.io to authorize using SSL certificates
- We pass user's authorization token to the website using the OAuth2 protocol
In case of an emergency, a user can independently recall its certificate. This may be used in case of a device loss.User can issue any number of certificates and use them at own discretion.
How to connect your website?
Authorizer is a OAuth2 provider that works on standard principles. Service configuration is almost similar to any other OAuth provider:
- Create a certificate and authorize yourself on a website
- Add an application to receive Client Id and Secret
- Include authorization data on your website or configure a module for your CMS
