Crypto fork consolidations in the future?

The momentum in Crypto seems unstoppable. The open competition between Cryptos and their own 'offer /USPs' and their own Forks is inevitable. Could there be fork merges in the future? If there was consensus? Or will individual Cryptos keep forking until the Betamax Vs. VHS moment, and one Crypto is left?

At that point in time at least, until an improvement comes! VHS was very shortlived. Decentralised, competition, and innovation is essential but it could get silly with so many forks. Greed could be the undoing of wider crypto adoption, as developers, develop theirs for future profits and not the end goal of 100% decentralized power and 100% true democracy.
