Careful How You Upvote Comments!
What I'm going to write about today is known to senior Steemians but may be totally new to new users. If you are new here or think you have a lot to learn, please take a minute to read this post.
Today I'd like to point out a well known user behavior and it's consequences. It is about upvoting comments.
Steem blockchain is an amazing place and apart from the blogging part, it has a financial part as well, which is very important, not at all negligible if you want to grow your account.
I'm seeing new users upvoting comments as a token of appreciation. This is a very nice gesture but unfortunately it's not working as you think. You may give a like on other social media platforms and watch your post getting likes but here any upvote has consequences.
When it comes to payouts, there's a limit under which the upvote value is not payed out but burned because it is considered dust. That limit is $0.03.
Some of us are using a service that is upvoting dust value posts and comments. (This is not an advertising post for those services!) One of them is @ dustsweeper, which you can send some STEEM or SBD and saves your dust. It's been working well so far but after HF21 is implemented, which is in a few hours, its existence becomes uncertain according to their last post.
Giving $0.03 upvotes on comments is pretty difficult, I know. I'm a very little fish here, with my 5300SP that I'm holding at the moment, that would mean 50% upvote, which I can't afford. I'd rather upvote posts instead. A smaller upvote than 50% on comments would mean a waste of resources as you never know if the user is using any dusting service. Newer users with less SP most likely don't.
This is not an advice, it's my opinion. You can still choose to do whatever you think it's best.
I'm curious to see what's going to happen to @dustsweeper after HF21 goes live. I've been expecting an update from them as everyone is posting updates about their new plans but I saw nothing so far.

Well, I am a very very tiny malnutritioned little fish, and I have been using a lot of @dustweeper excellent service. ☺️. I hope they service is available still after hf21.
I am currently also a little fish - minnow with currently (2019.08.31, 13:11 CEST) 581.397 Steem Power -, and I am using @dustbunny.
They are doing their dust fluffing services for free.
You do not have to pay Steem nor Steem Dollars (SBD) to them.

Is the $0.03 limit is calculated by set USD amount or is it the current price of the equivalent STEEM? (I mean, if STEEM price went up twice as much, would the limit become $0.06?)
Yes, that's why you didn't get any rewards (most likely). Unfortunately I can't answer your question, as far as I can remember, the limit has always been $0.03, but I might be wrong. Either way, careful with upvoting comments, especially if dust services are going to stop.
