SKYNET or the World’s First Blockchain Internet of Things Chip

Technology today has come to an incredibly long way but in a very short period of time. Can you realise how many things has technology changed in only a few decades?Today, real-world advances in Artificial Intelligence, robotics and cybernetics are taking away the breath of the world’s largest industries away.

The statistics show that the number of Internet of Things (IoT) devices connected worldwide and smart homes is estimated to approach 1.2 billion, by the end of this year. Moreover, the number of IoT devices is estimated to increase by 31 per cent each year and is expected to reach 1 Trillion IoT devices entering the ecosystem by 2035.

Although the Internet of Things is known or said to be the fourth industrial revolution, with the potential to radically transform our lives now, there are some existing problems with IoT holding back its full potential: connectivity, intelligence, and functionality.

What is SKYNET?

The Skynet is the name of a new project, a blockchain startup supported by a Singapore-based non-profit organisation called OpenSingularity Foundation. Their aim is first, to contribute positively to humanity, and secondly, to become the first blockchain core processor and network to serve it.

More specifically, Skynet will use the blockchain chip, which contains billions of free licenses it produces on devices, worldwide. This will connect the devices to their own blockchain network. Therefore, the billions of interactions generated by this end-to-end system and the Skynet Core processors will be collected on the Skynet Network.

Skynet Core stands at the heart of Skynet, and it is a built chip that creates a system-on-a-chip (SoC), designed especially for blockchain and artificial intelligence applications. To facilitate this global blockchain powered network of connected devices, Skynet also provided a highly scalable system called the Skynet Open Network (SON).

But what can Skynet do, anyway? Skynet will allow all the devices from a place or city to communicate with each other through the Skynet Network. For instance, smartphones will turn into blockchain phones with an integrated wallet that will store money and make transfers. With Skynet, vehicles will pay for charging and parking. Secure IP cameras will detect unusual conditions and warn all devices and systems on the blockchain.

About the Team

Skynet appears to have a strong team, with over 500 patents and led industry innovations in the artificial intelligence field. Alexander Shi is the CEO of OpenSingularity and the leader behind this complex project. He is also a UC Berkeley blockchain veteran and an expert in what he is doing. Alongside are Dr Jae Hung who is the former vice president of Samsung, dr. Carl Shi, a former vice president of Qualcomm and many others (over 20) team members, with working experience in Google Ventures, Microsoft AL, etc.
