THRILLING COMBINATION: Artificial Intelligence and 5G TECHNOLOGY
Recently I've been researching about the infamous 5G technology and trying to learn what other people have to say about it. And it seem to be quite a hot topic. |
---|
INTRODUCTION
On one hand we are being offered a great solution, one which would allow us almost limitless speed of communication. So called "internet of things". In theory, once you're connected to a 5G network, you should be able to download large files (movies etc) within a split of second.
Admittedly it does sound very impressive and at first glance this solution seems to be a natural direction that technology is moving towards, but we should bear in mind that there are some RED FLAGS which makes me feel a bit uncomfortable about the development of this technology.
And I would like to discuss some of those "red flags" hoping to learn some opinions as well coming from more knowledgeable and experienced people here on Steemit.
5G AND OUR HEALTH
So far we know that a great advantage of the 5G technology is pretty much unlimited speed. |
---|
However, on the other hand, I've learned that absolutely no one out there seems to be aware of the fact that this technology would have an impact on our health. What kind of impact could it possibly be? I've seen many influencers sharing their concerns and some of them suggesting that in the long run those exposed to 5G (living in close distances to antennas) may suffer awful health side effects. Apparently, brain cancer is one of those possible risks.
Since there is very little (or zero) official research backing up the safety of 5G, I think we can assume that no one will know for sure how this technology could impact our health. One thing for certain, is that it's in our all best interest to get interested in this topic, in hopes that regulators will step in and help to ensure our safety.
Naturally, I would love to hear your opinion on that particular issue, but my main focus for discussion would be mostly related to the amazing (or perhaps deadly) combination: AI + 5G
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, BLOCKCHAIN and 5G
I'm not going to pretend that I'm an expert when it comes to either AI, blockchain or 5G. I'm very passionate about those technologies and right now all I have to say is simply my own "little speculation". |
---|
For several months I've been following different aspects related to the development of blockchain and AI. I've learned already that projects similar to DBC (DeepBrain Chain), Singularity or effect.ie are using blockchain for many different purposes.
In very simple words: merging those two technologies (blockchain and Artificial Intelligence) will allow AI to "outsource" computing processing power to global networks. This way major problems (cost of processing data) will be partly solved. Blockchain right now may still be to slow to be considered a permanent/solid solution, but what matters is that this solution (outsourcing processing power) brings new opportunities for AI and it's just a matter of time to speed things up.
Another challenge that not many people seem to talk about is the fact that the current "speed of communication" between AI is a thousands times slower than the speed of processing datas itself. Just imagine being able to "think" very fast but if you would want to exchange processed information then you're entering a super slow-motion mode conversation. |
---|
How annoying would it be? :)
Can 5G be a real improvement in this industry? Possibly. I can only hope to start a discussion with those of you who are tech-savvy and wouldn't mind sharing your knowledge.
SHARE YOUR OPINION
I cannot stop wondering if 5G is indeed what we need. How can it improve our lifestyles and what could be potentially cost and consequences of this technology. |
---|
Would the speed of transferring data also be a breakthrough for Artificial Intelligence? I seriously believe we're entering a very interesting and possibly terrifying times and the best we can do is to build our awareness.
Regardless on weather we care about AI or not, or about 5G, those technologies will become part of our live eventually, the way mobile devices did.
Yours, Piotr

I have maintained that blockchain tech is the management/logistical tool necessary to scale AI tech. Now 5G is interesting. It would seem, like what HTML5 did for video and tackling the YouTube issue, 5G will do for VR. After all, the selling point is AI and VR.
Now, I have not investigated 5G, so I found it helpful that there are already publicized health concern. Better tackle the problem now than go through seemingly endless update to HTML4 before finding a solution. Especially when it comes to physical (or brain) health, rather than, mere annoyance.

Greetings dear @crypto.piotr.
I apologize for my tardy response.
We have just left a total Blackout in Venezuela: more than 100 hours without power supply.
As I made reference in a comment to @neavvy, I would love to see the application of AI in a system that allows to optimize the energy distribution in a nation.
Through AI we can study the consumption patterns of a region in order to obtain a better energy performance.
Efforts should be made to develop a system that allows self-sustainability.
This reflection comes to me, because being without electric power, I could realize the dependence we have. All our cryptoactive, our tokens, our wallets would become nothing because they do not have electricity.
Regarding 5G technology.
When reading this publication I could verify that what this technology offers is Velocity. And it's sensible, because that's what we want when we talk about communication.
Holochain
I had not heard of this platform.
But closely related to this I think that the advantages offered by existing networks, whether blockchains or not, should be taken advantage of to make a global interconnection that allows the AI to go further.
A couple of days ago I had a conversation with a dear friend of mine and he told me about "Quant Network". Although AI does not appear among the objectives of this company, its principle could well bring real benefits. Since they have an Operating System for the interconnection of Blockchains. This captured my attention and I've been with this idea for several days in my head. Fascinating!
Dear @juanmolina
It's so great to hear from you again. I already landed in Poland a while ago and I've been quite busy catching up with family and friends.
But at the same time I've heard about your lack of electricity within past few days and I was honestly worried about you @fucho80 and @lanzjoseg like crazy.
I can only imagine how difficult it has been for those who were in the hospitals right now. It must be a real nightmare :/
Wow. I never thought about it. Perhaps you could write a post on this topic and publish on your own profile? I would promote it and also I would transfer some pocket STEEM to you as a small support.
(luckily price went up)
That is so bloody true! I bet most of us cannot even imagine scenario of not having electricity. And in case of blackout ... we end up without anything having any value. Darn...
That could be another amazing topic :) I seriously would love to hear about it :)
Yours
Piotr
I am also glad to hear from you dear friend.
I will gladly try to please you in this proposals that you have made to me.
I guess many of the blockchain technologies are in the proof of concept phase only, they are not even touching the industry phase where companies can see relevant stake and actual implementation.
We need to wait more to see other technological development will support blockchain developments.

I think 5G needs to be looked at closely. A lot of people are saying it is not so good to humans. But it makes money and is the future, and those who own it live far away from it. I'm writing a small post about the outcome of this tech if it is not kept from harming us...
PS, there is an alternative to blockchain and that is holochain.
Thanks @wales
Guys (@neavvy, @juanmolina) have ever heard about holochain? I never did ....
Thank you @wales for your comment.
It's surely hard to tell what is the truth. Is it really bad or is it not?
I can only hope that more politicians and regulators will get involved and regulate this industry, before it's to late.
Is this "Step this way for machine intelligence" ? Im gonna read it now :)
Cheers
Piotr
I think 5G will usher in a new age of IoT. And imagine every ioT device can also be a node to process Block chain - making blockchain more persistent and “near”. Add AI into mix, and iot can be rented out even. The types of use cases will increase dramatically.

5G is very different than the other leaps forward from 1G to 4G. The difference is that the microwaves they will use have a very short range so there will be a necessity to have many more antennas in our communities just for the system to work. Even a person walking in front of the antenna could disturb the system. I just wonder what it would be like to have hundreds of microwave ovens, on at all times, blanketing our neighborhoods. Basically, health issues are real. That said, I don't know if it will be any different than what we have right now. Our communities are already saturated with high frequency wifi signals (just think about how many signals your phone picks up). Will 5G be any different? One thing is for sure, the technology will really start to take off. We will be able to do things that were never possible before, things that have yet to be invented. If you are wondering what I mean, think about how impossible it was to check your email on your phone before the first smart phones came out. A 5G phone will connected to a 5G network will be an entirely new device than anything anyone has ever seen before. That said, it may be time to move out of range, onto the farm, and get a flip phone :)
As I mentioned to @crypto.piotr, I have yet to investigate 5G. I gotta think that satellite tech is of a concern, and yet, this is the first time the word satellite appears on this post/comments.
Figured your reply was the best place to light this fire and see if there is anything to it.
I don't think that Satellites will factor much into the 5G situation. I am not even that sure that satellites do much really since 99% of all internet traffic is through under ocean cable.
https://www.vox.com/2015/3/13/8204655/submarine-cables-internet
I really think 5G will be extremely localized, the frequency is too short to be transmitted over large distances and since geo-sycronistic satellites tend to be at 22000 miles up in the sky, it may be impossible to transmit any form of internet considering the distances. I got to tell you the truth, I am suprised they work at all!
Have you considered the Bitcoin satellite network and our ability to put up working satellites that are smaller than the size of a fist? I am not sure how it would work, but everything seems to be pointing to a leap in technological application.
Wow! That sounds cool! A private network off grid. I like it!
Yes, @matteopaints - thank you so much for this: you are so right - we already live in cultures where we are actively encouraged (or outrightforced) to live and work in conditions/ with materials that totally contradict our wellbeing - and adding another ton of whatever kind of microwave/ offense around us, is likely to mean nothing to big corporations who are profiting, nor even the average citizen, who is so profoundly entrapped by 'time poverty' and the need to be like everyone else, and to have what everyone else has... I personally cannot sleep in a house that has multiple wifi signals - like the blocks of small, modern apartments in the city that my brother lives in: there are around 10 or more full wifi signals operating, and my nervous systems starts shooting pains and prickles all around my being. I live in a medieval quarter with thick, thick walls, which keeps out the signals from mobile phones and other wifis... really important for me... <3 Damn right: move out of range, I agree!
I have a ringing in my ears, pretty much all of the time, they say it is normal tinnitus, but I wonder if it isn't related to all of the background signals that I am constantly surrounded by. (Now that I have posted this I will probably get ads for hearing loss!)
Oooh - that's not so good, Matteo - I'm hoping you find solutions to it.... I sooooo value the silence and the lack of background static around me here!

Thanks, I’d like to enjoy the silence too😁

Well, AI and 5G are the two biggest issues of the technological future. We need to keep our eyes open on this one!
I love how responsive you are @clareartista :)

It's very happy-making for me, to have interesting topics like these to respond to! 😄

What means 'time poverty' ?
It's the conventional/conditioned belief that we 'don't have time', or that we have to be somewhere else - the dissipation of our focus, our energy, our mental power, because we're taught to believe in the 'scarcity' of our time. Does this make sense? I'm passionately interested in how we liberate ourselves from this bondage to tension, and realise that we can be free by knowing that time belongs to us, if we learn to flow with it 🙏😊

Thank you for your great reply @clareartista
Oh, you must be strong believer in our human race :)

Piotr
Yey - you're welcome, @crypto.piotr! And yes - I am: I'm passionately interested in our potentialising our enormous creative potential! We're in a period of collective self-destruction, however, which needs to be turned around... Lots of work, lots of inspiring to be done!! I've just set up a new project collecting conversations around living-in-the-gift, which I think might be powerful.... www.livinginthegift.com <3
I'm not too worried about this.
It's not like they really are microwave ovens. Electromagnetic wave communications technologies don't need to be powerful only detectable. If 5G really does use less power then that's even lower energy radiation anyway. Ever increasing efficiencies of detection technologies drive down how bright antennas must shine, and the less juice it takes to fling your message the less each byte costs. Also, the closer antennas are together the dimmer they can be to communicate as per the inverse square law, all other things being equal.
It's not like it's ionizing radiation. We're all currently bathed in quite dim microwaves from just the background radiation, and every living thing ever has been too.
I hope you are right!
I absolutely love your comments @a-non-e-moose
Dear @matteopaints
Thank you for your amazing comment. I appreciate. I believe I never had a chance to interact with you before.
That's very true. I've heard that every 300 meters. That would be quite insane.
Indeed. And it seem that most advanced countries will be testing this technology on it's population.
I absolutely agree with you. Could you potentially see how this technology could be used within AI industry?
Hehe I'm still nokia user :)
ps. would you consider using enter sometimes to separate blocks of text? it would make realding much easier :)
Cheers
Piotr
Yey to Nokia - I got my first smartphone a couple of years ago, and find it a lot more bother than it's worth... Takes a lot of energy to switch off all the notifications and inbuilt apps which I have no interest in being distracted by. I would never trust it to sit close to my body in a pocket, and cannot do phone calls of more than a few mins on it... :-)
Dear @clareartista
Thanks for your comment and for being so kind and responsive.
Cheers, Piotr
You're so welcome!

Hey Piotr, yea I could see this technology being used for AI, it may be the reason that they are introducing it. For now AI is just a bit of an annoyance. I did an experiment recently with a bunch of 20 year olds, all who had their phones out. We talked for about a minute about Rugby, how much we liked to play rugby, that we wanted to buy rugby shirts, and tickets to Rugby games, it was all BS, but then, within a few hours, two of the guys got ads for Rugby on their phones. So, AI is definitly listening to our conversations already. I can't imagine how much more invasive AI will become with a 5G network in place.
Dear @matteopaints
I've heard similar stories several times lately. Scary a bit.
I would like to thank you for your valuable comment and for sharing your thoughts. I absolutely appreciate it.
Have a great weekend buddy

Thanks!! You too!!
Excellent article @crypto.piotr. I am not sure if you are aware, but there is one extraordinary Polish AI project - Golem (I have once written about it for the Trivial.co platform).
So Golem is that it is a decentralized supercomputer and the biggest problem with it is that it needs to transfer computed data between nodes. This process may be very slow and take more time than the computing itself, which is really frustrating. When I have heard about 5G for the first time, I thought about Golem, as it could provide super fast data transfer for the nodes, ensuring amazing performance of the whole Golem system.
On the other hand, there are some Polish people organizing demonstrations and protests against 5G. I understand caring about our health and agree that we must be especially careful, but some of them treat 5G like another embodiment of satan! This is nonsense for me.
And big thank you for your recommendation!
Dear @neavvy
I wasn't aware that Golem has been created by Polish developers. Seriously? That's amazing!
You nailed it :) We're thinking very alike buddy.
Oh. That's something new. Do you mind sharing link to any news about it?
Cheers

There’s no doubt 5G will change our physical and virtual landscape. However, it’s clear this technology comes with major health concerns too. The wave of the future may also mean a wave of new cancers, illnesses, and disabilities.
More research and studies need to be completed before the entire 5G rollout is complete. The potential health consequences associated with the 5G infrastructure is too great to ignore. If you can, stay in contact with your government and advocate for local control over where 5G mini cell towers are located. We must approach this new technology with respect and caution.
The present and future certainly mean a wave of new cancers, illnesses, and disabilities. There's nothing else to expect with how industry is poisoning the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the land we inhabit.
Advances in medical technology bring those things too, somewhat paradoxically. Those who would've stillborn a mere millennium ago get to lead lives of debilitation today for instance. With life expectancy increase you get more cancer. Every moment you live is a roll of the cancer dice. More moments, more snake-eyes.
If anything I'd hope better telecommunications would help us address these conundra more efficiently.
Those are the sorts of things I think government ought to contend with, if it's to prove some scant use in the ghastly face of itself. Not squabbling over where to put the antennas.
Leave that to the engineers.
Precisely.
Dear @whatsontrend
That is very true. And it seem that most developed countries (the ones with money) will be the ones to test this technology on its population.
Fully agree. We mostly need to introduce some solid regulations.
Very well said. Thank you for your amazing comment.
Yours, Piotr
Did you mean to repeat that first quotation? It reads a bit weird.
Hi @a-non-e-moose
I must admit that your comment made me a bit confused here ....
In the above comment you repeat "The wave of the future may also mean a wave of new cancers, illnesses, and disabilities."
That just struck me as a bit odd.
You're welcome 😊
5G should be stop as it is unneccesary and will also cause harm to humans as well as animals
as for ai i do not see any imminent threats
Posted using Partiko Android
Dear @khussan
I think we're past stage when we could stop this technology.
What I know that 5G should be regulated somehow. Right now there is almost no regulations and zero health research has been publicly provided. And that doesnt sound reassuring.

Piotr
There has been a few observations though birds were dying near 5G testing areas dont know how it would effect humans 🤔

Interesting article and something my sister recently brought up. I'm going to be researching this more personally. We are the public at risk and the implications could pose a large public threat for health. Thanks.

You sister? wow. Usually only guys seem to be talking about those kind of topics. RESPECT :)
It seem that rich and developed countries will be testing 5g technology on it's citizens :) Luckily I'm not from rich and developed country :)

Thank you @crypto.piotr for the respect. I am sad that humans are again being used as Guinea pigs for corporate greed. Cheers, friend.
