CHIMAERA || THE TRUE BLOCKCHAIN GAMING

Did you ever play SEGA's Sonic the hedgehog who ran so fast and gathered so many ring-like coins and wished that those coins could be converted to real world value? Or did you ever play GTA and wondered when it would become possible to truly own the assets in any gameplay and somehow trade it for real-world value?

‎Well, if you didn't, I did.😊

These were not my only imaginations. I also wondered why some very interesting games had to have a limited amount of players and also why their gameplay stories came to an end. As a child I had imagine it would continue to run infinitely like a parallel universe with no end, having so many different graphical stages or levels that not only piqued our interests but also wowed us. Little did little me know that it was at that point in time, a chimera, a possibility only in my imaginations and not in reality.

Later on, I got to discover the reason why it was what it was or rather "looked" like what it was.

Games are basically interactions between Images (3D or 2D) to complete a specific task while being governed by some set rules or virtual boundaries. These Images are data units which require a storage unit and the interactions are processes which require a processor. Hence, the quality of games( game-length, graphics, multiplayer limits) depends significantly on the storage and processing equipments capabilities at hand and cannot be improved or scaled without a proportional improvement of these requirements.

‎The scalability of games improved with the advent of Cloud Computing, which is the storing, processing and managing of data on remote servers hosted on the internet. However, Cloud Computing had the problem of centralization, which manifested in forms of unforseen server downtimes, cost of data hosting, proneness to data hack, central point of failure and other central authority faults.

As regards the earlier mentioned Virtual-Reality value conversion, the weakness in security and the double-spending problem millitated against the virtual world. Different game patches from different developers(unlicensed) aimed to modify the original developer features sprung up from left, right, center and did modify the game features. These modified games were not open-sourced and hence we could say they had been hacked. In such a system, real value could not be stored because it could be easily lost.

A distributed ledger of transactions called Blockchain has been able to circumvent these security and double-spending circumstances of the virtual world with its Transparent and unhackable record of transactions, therefore transcending it from a virtual world of things to a virtual world of value. However, this Blockchain solution had not been applied to the gaming industry and so my imaginations and wishes for the gaming world remained what it was, a chimera.

A holistic application of the Blockchain technology to the gaming industry would mean that value can be introduced into games, there would be true ownership of game items or assets, a market for this value and if tweaked properly would solve the problem of scalability.

The $108.9 billion industry as at 2017 will not only experience a such in users but also will start to experience new brands or genres of games.

‎Players use their characters to navigate through the virtual environments with the sole aim of getting to the final boss of that level, never really exploring the environment, collecting game times or completing other sidetasks. The possibilities Chimera opens up to players prompts them to do just these, thoroughly going through all levels to mine the in-game items.

Rewarding Feedback System.

‎As a student, I consider visual education as the best form of education. Using graphics to represent actual system helps students to visualize the system in their minds and understand how some factors causes properties change in the system which consequently leads to better retention. Hence games are excellent media to help students understand a concept as they are immediate feedback systems. However learning can be difficult sometimes even when it is done through gaming. Rewarding students with real world value for each level of tasks they scale through would motivate them to keep going regardless of the barriers they face.

A Second Chance At Wealth.

The planets of the decentralized autonomous universe will be filled with opportunities, as players can really explore and gather assets which can be translated to wealth.
