It's the weekend. The world sleeps, but CRYPTO DOESN'T. So, I found an interesting article on coindesk.

Decentralizing Giants: Ebay

The article talks about how blockchain, cryptocurrency, and decentralization can change the major giants in three separate industries.

The first giant that could be affected by decentralization is Ebay. Currently, if people are listing the same thing to sell on multiple websites, they would have to go to EVERY website and mark it as sold upon a sale.

With decentralization, these companies could access a decentralized database where information is stored about things being bought and sold. When something is bought, this decentralized database gets updated. How's this useful? Well, for one, because everyone (the various online marketplaces) is accessing this decentralized database, there is no need for individuals to mark things as sold on every website.

i.e. If I were to buy a bike on this marketplaces using a decentralized database, EVERY marketplace using this database would have the bike marked as sold. The marketplace or I don't have to manually mark it as sold.

Decentralizing Giants: Youtube

Youtube is a no brainer: They control whether or not your content stays up. They can demonetize your video at will. They use automation to demonetize your videos. They virtually control your revenue.

Let's look at steemit. Content creators earn STEEM and SBD by receiving votes from the audience. There's no direct censorship. The people have the power. If users steal content, the community can flag that content to the point where no one sees it.

Decentralizing Giants: Apple Music

The streaming industry is more or less controlled by giants like Apple Music. It's very hard for artists to get paid. Artists get paid pennies on the dollar for the content they create. Obviously, the world wide artists are making their money. However, the local artists that may not receive that much attention are suffering.

Now, we're seeing artists begin to accept cryptocurrency for their content. We've even seen G-Eazy and Mariah Carey accept Monero.

We're also seeing the idea of a "portable fan-badge". Ujo, a blockchain-based music supply chain provider. This portable fan badge links your identity to a set of data consisting of the music you like, artists, genre, etc. It would allow you to import the metadata to various music marketplaces. This way, your favorite artists could connect with you DIRECTLY. This is great marketing for the artist, and the consumer can receive taste-consistency among various music platforms.
