Some very clever people around the world have devised a way to cluster "anonymous" bitcoin addresses so that they can be identified.

Zhong, who stole bitcoins from Silk Road, eventually had to transfer them to a separate account where he kept the legitimate funds.

When law enforcement learned of the connection between Silk Road bitcoins and these separate wallets, they simply requested Zhong's IP address from the bitcoin exchange and arrested him.
