DAPP Hackathon

Had the outmost privilege to attend DAPP.COM 's first hackathon in Malaysia as I was invited by Blocklime the organizers. I didn't attend the talks however I did manage to catch the final 6 pitches of the hackathon.

These guys had 24 hours to form teams, think of an idea and build their MVP around it. There were a lot of great ideas, some funny ones and one which had almost the same characteristic as Steem. However bear in mind that they had 24 hours to get all of these done.

Here are the videos of the final 6. I didn't have 1 of the videos strangely enough and I do apologize for that.

Ticktok - A blockchain for ticketing and to avoid overselling or punters trying to hike up the price of tickets for concerts to conferences.

Petech - Blockchain for verifying your pets. by placing its identity on the blockchain. I thought that this project was well executed in such a short span of time.

Under Cover - Ensuring that your hard earned Degree , Diploma and Certs are stored on the blockchain preventing fraud. Strangely I have been seeing these kind of blockchain coming up a number of times now. Great presentation and address the problem well. Of course there is a lot of room for improvement.

Transplorer - This team addresses the FMCG markets where you are able to get all the ingredients of your product on the blockchain. I remembered IBM had a similar solution but it cost millions of dollars to use. This was indeed a great idea and with the blockchain I'm sure the entire solution would be much simpler and cheaper to implement.

Unsealed Network - Almost similar to Steem , given only 24 hours to get this up and running, its pretty impressive however the team didn't research Steem very well and didn't really know its competition in this space. Good efforts overall .

Summary

Again, given the fact that the teams only had 24 hours to come up with all of that and do a presentation. I must applaud their efforts on that. There were many teams which didnt make it and close to 150 participants registered for the hackathon.

Its great to have established companies like DAPP.COM to sponsor these events and its companies like Blocklime with helps drive the blockchain development ecosystem in Malaysia which is steadily on the rise thanks to companies and individuals similar to Blocklime.

Even though Blockchain has always been relatable to Bitcoin and all the negativity which has followed it, I'm sure that Malaysia will soon wake up and start embracing the technology as it can also do a lot of good for everyone.
