Skynet - The Solution For IoT Connections At A Large Scale

A world where intelligent devices can interact using their own “free will” and to do all that in a large secure environment is a dream that many people wish to be a reality. This has been the vision of the Internet of Things (IoT): to create artificial intelligence (AI) networks that can organise themselves.

A first step towards the realisation of this dream is blockchain technology which can hold the role of a secure data environment and payment channel. Still, with the current blockchain technology, the performance and scalability problem is still unresolved.

Skynet’s project OpenSingularity Foundation has the mission to change this. It is a hybrid system composed of a system-on-a-chip core that is optimised for AI and blockchain apps which also holds the highly scalable blockchain solution.

The AI Network

Unlike science fiction movies where AI is portrayed as a threat to humanity, in reality, AI and IoT stand behind many useful applications. Still, this does not nullify the fact that cybersecurity and privacy should be taken seriously.

The Distributed Ledger Technology can offer a communication layer for a secured network of interconnected IoT devices, and by guaranteed data integrity, blockchains can provide solutions to problems such as device identity, secure micro-payments and transparent communication.
However, this infrastructure needs to support very high transaction operations and almost an infinite scalability when it comes to the number of devices connected.
Although no current blockchain can guarantee that, Skynet aims to combine different innovative solutions to create an IoT-ready with an incredible transaction architecture and a scale that’s never been seen before.

Skynet core

The foundation of Skynet is Skynet Core which is a chip that implements a system-on-a-chip (SoC) optimised for AI and blockchain application. The chip offers the following components which are blockchain specific:

Hardware cryptocurrency wallet that provides a high level of security for key management
Hash Acceleration which boosts cryptographic hash functions
*Automated Transaction Signing which allows the sources of all blockchain interaction to be identifiable.

For intelligent devices that support deep learning applications, the higher versions of the chip will also have features which allow sharp execution of complex AI models.

Skynet Open Network (SON)

Some of the advantages of using the blockchain layer for IoT device interaction include the feature that gives devices the possibility to always be identified and the integrity of their data can continuously be verified. To create a global blockchain network Skynet their own highly scalable blockchain network called Skynet Open Network or in short, SON.

One of the many things that the SON does is to provide “Light” which is the native cryptocurrency for rewards and fees. It can also be used by other IoT chains that don’t wish to implement a token of their own.
