Digital Certificates and Credentials - ALTERNATIVE USE OF BLOCKCHAIN
This post is NOT about money. Our fellows at University of Nicosia (Cyprus) and its Blockchain Initiative innovated the issuance of certificates for their student by using (of course) the blockchain technology. Chances are its inherent characteristics are highly suitable for this purpose, Decentralized, Transparent, Tamper-proof, Permanent, Open; thus helping to tackle traditional bureaucracy caveats.
Having a certificate issued in the bitcoin blockchain has proven to speed up the process and ease further validation of the certificate by any third party.
decentralized and transparent platform that provides a secure method to issue and authenticate certificates without the fear of them being modified or lost, even if the issuing organization ceases to exist, using blockchain. It eliminates the conventional processes of issuing certificates and goes beyond simply digitizing them, to solve a plethora of real world complications such as lost certificates, validation, as well as lost or modified records.
This is an Open-Source project, so is an open invitation to anyone interested in participate, use it and give feedback, and yes you can start creating certificates.
I took the course Introduction to Digital Currencies and was awarded with this academic certificate:
