RE: Symbolism in Blade Runner 2049 | Finding the Pattern of Reality

in #blade7 years ago

Ok I have one question. Can you explain to me the relation between Nabokov's PALE FIRE and Blade Runner? I have started reading it. So far, no clue about the relation between both stories.

Sort:

There are many relationships, Pale Fire (the poem) is about a mystical vision which sends the author of the poem on a quest for transcendent meaning after the death of his daughter, and when he thinks he found it, there is a mistake which shows that he is wrong in his interpretation, but then he goes on to say that it might not be in the details, but in the pattern that meaning is found. K cites the poem at the beginning, when he is being tested for his baseline, '...cells interlinked... The novel version of Pale Fire is mostly about disjunction, the story of someone interpreting the poem but then pressing on it an entirely other story which does not fit the poem at all. So the whole thing is about the problem of disjunction, misinterpretation and a search for ultimate meaning nonetheless.
