My Emotional Roller Coaster with Bitcoin

Okay, so I am, as the Bitcoin Community likes to call new people to the space, a noob! I first heard about Bitcoin years ago and did not have the vision or foresight at the time to see its longterm potential. My first thought was, it wont last and brushed it off.

Then a few years later it popped up in the media again and to my astonishment it had gone up in price, close to $100 at the time. At this point I thought, maybe I should buy a coin or 2? Like most every other noob in the space, its safe to say I'm kicking myself for ignoring this brain fart!

When Bitcoin hit $1000 I had finally reached my breaking point. After a little research on the internet, because we all know if its on the internet it must be true and legitimate, I stumbled into Coinbase.

By the time I set up my Coinbase Account, verified my identity, moved over some cash, and hovered over the "buy" button for 2 days, I bought my first piece of a Bitcoin at $6600. At the time I was :( about a month later I was :)!!!

From that point on Crypto has become an obsession. I have been scouring the internet for hours, going to meet ups, listening to "the Bad Crypto Podcast", You Tubing with Carter Thomas and trying to understand the technology. By the way, I'm not a very tech savvy so it hasn't been easy to wrap my brain around it.

As the currency slowly crept up over several months I found myself the proud owner of 1.07 Bitcoin! Then somewhere around $19,900 it happened, Bitcoin stopped going up! Why is this happening? Isn't it just supposed to keep going up until it hits $1,000,000 a coin? Of course this is a joke but if Im honest it would have been nice!

Then the big volatility hit a week ago or maybe a day ago (a day feels like a week in crypto) and the market went bananas. So like every other undisciplined investor I sold my bitcoin!. Then somewhere between all of the commotion on GDAX with Litecoin, Etherum, Bitcoincash, and Bitcoin I found myself emotionally exhausted and much lighter in the coin purse.

I know, I'm shameless and I don't care. Nor do I expect anyone to send me Bitcoin, its a joke, kinda, LOL!

The whole thing made me want to pick up my ball and go home, essentially cash out. Then a funny realization kicked in, I had become a believer in the technology! Although I do not understand it perfectly, I do understand the promise of not only the technology but also the currencies that exist. In a world of governments that continually to leverage their own currency to the brink of failure, crypto may be a decent hedge (by the way, I'm not a financial advisor).

With this new epiphany I continue to hold, or HODL as the pros say, white knuckled like most of the rest of the noobs. All while the grizzled veterans of the Bitcoin world, HODL, cool, calm, and collected with the understanding this has happened time and again in the world of Bitcoin.

Will I become a Bitcoin Millionaire? I doubt it and in fact I may lose every hard earned penny that I've ever invested. Either way its been a fun ride (disclaimer, I have not invested anything I can't afford to lose and in my opinion no one should). Wether it changes the world or becomes something people look back at in amusement the event will go down in history and we were all apart of it. Really cool!
