Change.org has filed a petition challenging the authorities to return funds to users of the BTC-E platform

in #bitcoin7 years ago

According to the CCN recently, a 38-year-old Russian man was recently arrested in Greece. Alexander Finike, who is accused of laundering $ 4 billion of Bitquin, claims to operate "one of the most important cybercrime sites in the world". Alexander Finike is also suspected of penetrating the Mt Gox platform, according to the independent security team WizSec, by announcing that he was the main suspect in the robbery and subsequent money-laundering. He also revealed that the site was an electronic exchange platform BTC-e. Where the exchange stopped before the news of the arrests began to spread, and the cessation of work was justified as "unscheduled maintenance," and then it was announced that it would take 5-10 days to return the platform to work again.

Most users now believe that the BTC-e platform has already been closed, and when visiting its website, a message appears that the domain has been seized by the authorities. When you try to access a website, that's what the user sees:

"Many users questioned whether the United States had any legal right to seize the BTC-e exchange platform. Alexander Finike is a Russian man arrested in Greece, while BTC-e was registered in New Zealand. "

What will happen to users' money left on the BTC-e platform?

The CCN has recently announced that Alexander has been charged by a grand jury in the United States and that he may soon be handed over to the United States amidst all this. However, it is still unclear what will happen to the clients' money - after all, Innocent users pay for someone else's actions.

The Change.org petition recently urges the Department of Justice (DOJ) to restore or allow access to users on the exchange platform, thus not losing all their savings on the platform. Some also stated that it was possible to request proof of how to obtain their currency to continue to prove their innocence.

At the time of the petition, it had 731 supporters, and the number continues to increase as they are published on social networking sites. The text of the petition reads as follows:

"Hello, a few days ago electronic currency trading on the BTC-e platform was stopped by the US government and many innocent people lost large amounts of their money during this process. We want to get our money back! "

Many users have also indicated that the authorities have been able to take over the BTC-e domain and, as such, also assume the seizure of user funds there. Others have pointed to suspicious exchanges, since it is possible that someone is getting a fortune from the Betquin while most of the attention is directed towards the Alexander Finnick case. So far, what will happen to users of the BTC-e platform for electronic currency exchange is still a mystery. Most likely, the Department of Justice may require users to prove that their money has been legally obtained so they can get it back, and later the remaining funds will be offered at auction. On the other hand, some users mentioned that BTC-e.nz, the New Zealand platform portal, operates from time to time and allows users to access their money.
