Crypto Convo - food for thought; Bitcoin to Mars, implications and block speed.steemCreated with Sketch.

Is Bitcoin more future proof than we originally thought?

Signal delay between 4 and 21 minutes (https://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/mgs/faqs/faq_mplan.html) to get signals to Mars from Earth and vise versa.

NASA plans on putting more rovers on mars by Feb 2021 (https://mars.nasa.gov/programmissions/missions/future/mars2020/). Elon Musk (SpaceX) plans on Mars Flights by 2023 and pushing for a more affordable rate (http://www.spacex.com/sites/spacex/files/mars_presentation.pdf)

Packet radio interplanetary would be a nightmare in small amounts, the bigger the blockchain or the blocksize the harder it is to transfer the information smoothly.

The block time also creates an issue as the shorter block times create more of an issue and open up huge double spend problems as opposed to a slower block chain. At worst BTC would have to handle a 2-3 blocks being found in the time between a transaction reaching Earth from the Mars mempool.

In the event we ran 2 lightning networks and settled to a earth based blockchain the system would function very well. The problem would occur if the martians decided to mine the same BTC blockchain we earthlings are mining.

My poorly prepared video below... the above text covers all I talk about pretty concisely.

Sort:

A delay tolerant network. Ugh
A new coin would be a answer called marsbar? Mined exclusively up there and traded down here on a delay tolerant exchange?

Guess what I'm 3d printing to go along side my golden bitcoin next :)
