Visa & MasterCard Charging Add Fee's For Buying Cryto?

in #bitcoin7 years ago

It's come to my attention that these credit card companies are being said to be charging their customers additional fees for buying cryptocurrency via coinbase, cex.io, coinmama or similar sites. Notably being called Cash Advances.

A cash advance is a service provided by most credit card companies and charge card issuers. It allows cardholders to withdraw cash, either through an ATM or over the counter at a bank or other financial agency, up to a certain limit, which obviously not what anyones doing. We are not taking funds we already have out but using the funds we have to buy a different type of capital. These additional 3% being charged are a means of strong arming consumers into staying away from crypto and should not be tolerated.

This reddit post https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/7ti8wv/visa_and_mastercard_now_charge_an_additional_fee/#bottom-comments shows many others talking about the legality of what is going on and as well as if its really the credit card companies that are charging the fees as one member states the credit card company says Coinbase is the one to blame for the fees while most everyone else seems to think it is in fact the credit card companies.

Additional thoughts on the topic can be found in this youtube video (not my own)

I for one would like to end this by stating I use a prepaid mastercard and have not seen any additional fees "yet" , I do think however due to it being prepaid I may not see any.

Thank you all for stopping by on my first post on steemit. Good day
