I just came across this article. I believe it to be very important to those who like to mine crypto- currencies.
Caution needs to be used if this is what you like to do for an extra income or for fun.
I don’t quite understand the technical mumbo-jumbo of how this stuff works. However, protection needs to be put in place both with your computer system and how you yourself approach these various requests that some of these applications ask of you.
When I first started mining for bitcoins, I thought it would be profitable for me and I wasn’t expecting it to be very difficult to understand how the system works. I wasn’t aware of the pitfalls and also, the extensive learning curve that it was going to involve.
I am not computer savvy and the technical language that was thrown at me was overwhelming.
Anyways, but this is what I think the article means.
There is crypto- currency bug that had recently reared its ugly head (cryptocurrency mining trojan horse). Once it is in your computer it feeds off of all your hard work. A NSA hacking tool is used to contaminate Windows computer system with a malware trojan horse. After gaining access through a backdoor on your computer it seeks out mining recourses for XMR Monero ( an open source mining cryptocurrency). Once the hackers are in they execute a code on the machine. The malware will then download a mining tool a cryptocurrency miner and begin mining XMR, and divert the XMR to the hacker’s pockets.
