Exchange Poloniex announces plans to change Bitcoin network
July 25, 2017
The exchange Poloniex announced yesterday (24) its plans for the possible change in the Bitcoin network announced for the day August 1st. The original message is translated as follows: "There are a number of technical change proposals for Bitcoin that can take effect in the coming weeks, so we are taking this opportunity to communicate our plans to manage any disruption resulting from the network. We do not take a position on the appropriateness of any particular proposal nor do we participate in any outcome. Our main concern is to protect our users and their tokens. As we have done in the past when faced with similar circumstances (Bitcoin Unlimited), any decision we make will be with the safety of users' tokens in mind. We will be disabling Bitcoin deposits and withdrawals (and all BTC-related tokens) whenever you deem it necessary to ensure that all tokens stored in Poloniex remain secure. The length of any possible downtime is unknown, as this depends greatly on the stability of the network. Our goal will be to bring the wallet back online and allow deposits and withdrawals as soon as we believe it is safe to do so. Trading will not be affected during these periods.
At this time, we can not undertake to support any Blockchain that may emerge if there is a division of the network. Even if two viable Blockchains arise, we can support both and we will make that decision only after being satisfied that we can safely support any Blockchain in a corporate environment. If we decide to support and make available to Blockchains derivative tokens after a block split, note that if you have your tokens in lending at the time of a split, we will not be able to distribute the derivative tokens for you, the lender, as you will not own them in hands. These borrowed tokens may end up leaving the platform. "" Attention: If you do not want to leave your Bitcoins adrift, we recommend removing them from exchanges and keeping them in a secure wallet under your full control. Exchange is not wallet. Everyone who has bitcoins should remove it before 1. August. It is not a good idea to leave it on any exchange during the fork.
