Money is a political instrument of control. It would have been tantamount to granting independence of the North American colonies had his majesty King George 3 allowed the colonies to freely produce their own currency. The Stamp Act was a method to curtail this trend by limiting payment of tax to Crown approved stamps. By printing their own currency without Crown approval, the colonies had already declared their independence.
