A brief explanation for crypto newcomers and a remainder for veterans

in #bitcoin6 years ago (edited)

When was the first time you got to hear about any cryptocurrency? It doesn't matter if you are new on the matter or you have been around for years, your first contact was most likely the good old Bitcoin.

At some point along 2013 I read a brief article about a virtual coin that was not controlled by anyone and that was close to impossible to hack. The idea immediately captured my attention and I started to do my own research. This beautiful video by Duncan Elms was what got me to start understanding how this technology works and the implications that it may have.

Even though the video talks specifically about Bitcoin, many of the concepts that are explained also apply for most alt coins. If you haven't been able to wrap your head about what crypto-currencies are and how they work, I strongly recommend you to watch this video. Veterans will be impressed to see how much things have changed in the last five years.
