The anonymity of Bitcoin depends on how you use it.

Bitcoin is very transparant, that's the whole point of a blockchain. All transactions that ever took place are stored in the blockchain and can be viewed/verified by anyone that wants to. When you know someones bitcoin address then you can see how much they own and their whole transaction history. So everything is very traceable but a bitcoin address is not linked to an identity by default. It's only when you link your bitcoin address to for example an exchange with KYC that your identity can be known.

A better alternative to Bitcoin when anonymity is important for you is the privacy coin Monero. In contrast to Bitcoin transactions can't be traced with Monero.  Monero uses cryptography to shield sending and receiving addresses, as well as transacted amounts.

I think there has been a number of cases where those that wished to conceal their identity/transactions have been found using Bitcoin. I think Monero has stronger privacy features.

Why would that matter? Opinions are not important, i only look at facts. And the facts are that monero has better privacy features.

Both Monero and Bitcoin may soon be using MimbleWimble protocol which can make either one much more secure and private, and more scalable. I wrote about it here: https://hedgetrade.com/is-mimblewimble-a-dark-mark-for-bitcoin/
