How to earn some cash while doing nothing (part 3)?

In my previous episodes we learned how to make some cash with our free space on a computer's hard drive, and how to make our computer work for us...

Today, as promissed, we're going to have a look at the best way to earn money with our computer and this implies computer processor and mostly graphic cards processor...

OK, So How to do this ?

First of, this article will be usefull for you if you have:

  1. a good computer processor (this means at least a core i7)
  2. and/or a good graphic card (Geforce GTX 970 or above, AMD RX 470 and above)

Lot of people have pretty decent machines and don't use them at their maximum capacity. My articles aim at making the best out of these machines.

Before you start, if you're not sure with the material installed in your Desktop machine, you can check this list it will tell you what you can expect from your graphic card. Or you can also check this one, it is more complex but more precise.

Again don't expect to become millionaires but you're going to earn a little bit of cash while doing... nothing, so it's worth it !

Install the software

For this tutorial you'll need only two things :

  • A bitcoin address (in order to get paid !). This is very very easy to do : install copay, or jaxx on your mobile phone and you're done ! If you ask me i'll go for Jaxx because it works also on desktop and tablet, but you're free to use whatever wallet you like !
  • The NiceHash software. This is the easiest software i've found in all my crypto-currency wanderings.

Once you've downloaded the NiceHash software, install it on your computer, then start a precise benchmark (the benchmark button on the right).

Check that both your core processor and your graphic card are selected, and that all algorythms are checked too.

The precise benchmark will take a bit of time. It's going to test different algorythms on your computer.

Then we're going to choose the most profitable algorythm, depending on your hardware. Select your core processor first and check what is the best algorythm for it (the one that has the best score in mBTC/day column). For the core processor, you probably only have one option: the Crypto Night algorythm.

Then select your graphic card and look for the two or three algorythms with the best score in mBTC/day column. Note them on a piece of paper and close this benchmark test panel.

Go to the settings. In the general panel, put your BTC address from your wallet (see above).

Then go to the devices/algorythms panel. Here, for each of your devices you're going to select the best two or three algorythms (check the checkboxes !).

Then save and close the settings panel.

Are you ready ?

Now, you only have to click on the start button and your computer is going to start earning money for you.

NiceHash-steady.jpg

As you can see, i reach a decent 1.9 to 2.5$/day depending on the bitcoin price. Just for one graphic card. Check your desktop tower motherboard. If you have a PCI-e x16 extra slot, you might want to buy another graphic card (if you can find one... these days, all graphic cards are sucked out by miners like... YOU!). If you have a small PCI connector you'll probably need to buy a riser.

What is really cool with NiceHash is that you get payed in bitcoins. You do not mine crypto-currencies directly. Actualy you're selling your computation power to NiceHash. Then NiceHash sells this hashing power to people who would like to mine crypto-currencies.
So why is this good to be payed in bitcoins? Because, the bitcoin is still going UP, even if it has a lot of technical problems compared to ethereum, it is still going to grow. Some experts expect it to reach 5000$ in the next 2 to 4 years. Some dreamers even expect it to reach 10 000$ (and who knows?). So if you keep these bitcoins, chances are they'll grow in value with time and this all thing may become very profitable to you if you do not spend your bitcoins.

Another cool thing is that if you checked several algorythms, NiceHash will automatically select the most profitable for you at the moment. It will switch automatically to optimise your profits depending of your benchmark results (that's why you need to do a precise benchmark instead of a standard one).

If you can, keep your bitcoins for a minimum of two years. Then you'll thank me for writing this article (at least i hope so)...

Last thing, if you have an NVIDIA graphic card you need to check the P0 state option in the settings. Seriously, CHECK IT, you'll get a boost in your performances.

I really hope you enjoyed this article, if you do, you know what to do right? It's just under this article, this small blue round dot with a up arrow... It screams "Push me! Push me!...".

In any case, i wish you an excellent day, and hope to come back with some more interesting articles in the next weeks... In the meanwhile, don't hesitate to leave comments good or bad, i'll try to answer them the best i can...

I need to put on my thinking cap and download this FREE Money. Thank you

You're very welcome !

nice article and good luck with mining your hashes.. just a word of wisdom ! f you have a nice machine, with i7 & a good GFX card, be mindful, you do risk wearing out your kit pretty quickly and remember how much it cost to buy that slinky laptop in the first place.. even at $2 per day, how long is your laptop going to last ? you could earn $2 by writing a nice article, and upvoting, commenting and posting here on steemit. your pc would thank you and be taking it easy at the same time. using a browser is a piece of cake for a computer !!

Hi @outerground, you're partialy right. As you noticed, my graphic card is far from being "the latest big thing !". I use this computer to do 3D renderings for clients. It's been a long time that the whole computer as been amortized. So all the money i get is extra-money. I've settled this last year, and all the earning covered more than the price of the machine at the time (the bitcoin was 400$ at the time). All in all it has been more than profitable for me. Plus i keep the bitcoins, as explained. To be true, i also didn't count the extra power needed to make these calculations. But it's still profitable. My MSi graphic card works at 70% of power, 80°C top since february 2016. The real problem is the heat it produces while working...

welcome fellow animator ! I run shroomstudio CHECK us OUT...yeah it's the heat that's the problem ! We talked about putting a couple of our old machines out to pasture with mining.. we use Dell Workstations with Xeons and I'm sure the GFX cards in them are still up to the job..
I think the nicehash is a really interesting way of using your machine for obtaining bitcoin without hashing your socks off.. agree, I think your $2 per day will be worth quite a bit more in the future.. best of luck to you !!
