For those who don't know (three weeks ago I didn't), blockchain is the distributed ledger technology used by cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. It provides the decentralized thing we often hear about.
But it's more than "just" cryptocurrencies. Blockchain can be used in different contexts, like social media.
