Will Twitter Ban Cryptocurrency Adverts? Who Cares?
Sky News recently published an article stating that ‘Twitter is preparing to prohibit a range of cryptocurrency advertisements amid looming regulatory intervention in the sector’
Interestingly this little insight from Sky News is not backed up with any evidence to support this claim, although I think anyone with an ounce of common sense would realise this is exactly what we can expect coming from Twitter within the next few weeks.
Over the past few weeks we have seen Facebook announce a total ban on Cryptocurrency and ICO adverts followed soon after by Google announcing a total ban on all Cryptocurrency related adverts as from June 2018. With this in mind why wouldn’t Twitter ban them as well?
Does It Even Matter Though?
So if you experience your online browsing anything like I do then most of your adverts will be Cryptocurrency based, whether its for some unknown exchange or unheard of ICO you can be certain that just about every advert you see is a project you’ll likely never to see elsewhere, not in any reputable media, forum or twitter feed. A good project with a good team and a worthy business model does not need to advertise their ICO or AIRDROP with Google or Facebook, the projects gain traction on their own via the community that naturally forms around it.
Name a single advert for an ICO that you’ve seen which has turned out to be a successful project and i’ll be stunned, i’ve yet to see one.
So my point is, who cares if they are banning Cryptocurrency related adverts, it doesn’t matter, in fact it’s good for the cryptospace. With so many people falling into the space from non-investor backgrounds, non-technical backgrounds and often non-english speaking backgrounds its been scammers heaven with money rolling in for even the most unconvincing of scams.
What are your thoughts on this, do you think companies like Google, Twitter and Facebook banning Cryptocurrency related adverts is a bad thing or a positive step to clean up the space? We’d love to hear from you so please post your thoughts in the comments.
