First ethereum ASIC miner unleashed: the end of GPU mining yet again
Coindesk has an interesting article on the first publicly-available ETH-mining ASIC from Bitmain. This machine pumps out 180 MH/s.

In comparison, the new miner outguns the Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 TI at nearly 7x the hashpower. Power consumption is 800 W for the bitmain vs 180 w for the GTX.
This is obviously negative for Nvidia but GPU mining sales are a small portion of total sales. Also Nvidia makes good chips and they have a nice lead on the AI field so any drop in the price of NVDA stock may be a good buying opportunity.
Disclaimer:
No positions here and I'm not initiating an NVDA buy or short here. Will be looking to pickup a GPU on the cheap for my wife's engineering/CAD rig.
Good post. It will be interesting if code is implemented to 'brick' the miners - similar to what Monero have done in the past...
I did a post about it if interested?

Thanks
Thanks, I checked out your post. I believe Vitalik mentioned the possibility in the past but recently said that the Ethereum dev team's efforts were better spent on pushing Casper
Makes sense - I was surprised to see an ASIC for Ethereum because of PoS/Casper. Would have been nice to see it bricked like Monero have just done though
