Independent Canadian investment management company Harvest Portfolios filed a preliminary application for the creation of ETF blockchain in January, seeking to provide Canadian investors with the opportunity to invest in blockchain technology, writes Globe and Mail.

The Fund will invest "in the equity securities of issuers that directly or indirectly contribute to the development and implementation of distributed registry technology," Harvest Portfolios said in a statement. The company intends to monitor technological projects in the field of blockchain, reflecting them in the relevant index.

According to the Globe and Mail, two other Canadian companies are also trying to launch blockchain funds and this week filed relevant applications to regulators.

"In every conversation with customers - regardless of whether we're talking about the Canadian or US stock markets - we inevitably come to discuss blockchain and bitcoin," says Carl Chong, head of the first Canadian blockchain company ETF.

The fund will be available to Canadian investors who will be able to "benefit from the opportunities provided by the new industry".

The fund will invest in "equity securities of issuers that participate in research, development or use of blockchain technologies, or participate in the supply chain for blockchain applications, including technological equipment," the company said in a statement.
