The incident took place at the Federal Nuclear Center in Sarov, one of a number of “closed cities” created by the Soviet Union solely for the purpose of nuclear research. A group of scientists decided it would be a smart idea to mine bitcoins using the supercomputers at the nuclear facility.

A spokesperson for the facility, Tatiana Zalesskaya, told the disclosed that several researchers had been detained after making “an attempt to use the work computing facilities for personal ends, including for so-called mining.”
Mining cryptocurrencies in this way require huge amounts of computing power, and it’s common for miners to seek out cheap — and often illegal — sources of digital muscle like let's say " a supercomputer!"

The Federal Nuclear Centre is overseen by Rosatom, the Russian nuclear agency. In 2011, the center launched its new supercomputer with a capacity of 1 petaflop, which can undertake one thousand trillion operations per second.

The computer was not intended to be connected to the internet and when scientists attempted to do so, the center’s security department was alerted.

what do you think would this turn to a new trend in cyber crime?
or would russia crack down with crypto regulations.
