A vulnerability has been detected in the Bitcoin client.
Users are advised to upgrade to version 0.17.1
A vulnerability is found, the way to solve it also.
The Bitcoin ABC team has published a report on a critical vulnerability for Bitcoin Cash miners using the Bitcoin-ABC client 0.17.0.
It is reported that an attacker could create a malicious transaction that would be accepted by Bitcoin-ABC 0.17.0 and the block could be rejected by all other types of Bitcoin Cash mining software. The vulnerability could lead to the division of the Bitcoin Cash network.
Vulnerability as a way to distribute the update
After analyzing the vulnerability and possible responses, the Bitcoin-ABC developers prepared a patch and released a new version of 0.17.1 to correct this vulnerability and distribute it directly to the operators of the mining groups. Due to the decentralized nature, it was not possible to contact each miner.
"We advise Bitcoin users ABC 0.17.0 to update the latest version as soon as possible," says Bitcoin ABC.
