Ebay is "seriously considering" accepting bitcoins as payment method

The well-known online auction store, Ebay could accept payments in bitcoins and cryptocurrencies. Despite the fact that this goal has not yet been reached, a senior executive of the company assured that they would be "seriously considering" this possibility.

He was the senior vice president of eBay Americas, Scott Cutler, who issued these statements. The company is "seriously considering" accepting bitcoin, but "we have not yet achieved it," he said in an interview with Yahoo Finance.

In this way Ebay would join a rather exclusive list: that of retailers that accept bitcoin as payment method. Overstock.com became the first major retailer to accept bitcoin in early 2014, being a pioneer in the cryptographic world. Many do not accept the risk but Overstock has grown up to 250%, driven by the growth of cryptoactives.

Through Reddit, some users questioned this possibility. And is that the growth of Amazon has displaced Ebay, and some commented that it is an advertising move. Others warned about the lack of relevance that Yahoo has as a source, predicting that despite these rumors Amazon will buy the company in about 5 years.

The scheme could work from the commission charge. Ebay would receive the cryptocurrencies from the buyer, discount the commission and send the rest to the seller, so that there is no real risk of loss, since they can reject any transaction in which it is not possible to quickly settle the payment by means of cryptoactives for their rates.

If Ebay made the decision it would be a positive news for the ecosystem, demonstrating the confidence of a company with more than 20 years of experience in the business in the potential growth of bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.

On the other hand, the Square company added the possibility of using bitcoins to its popular App, Cash, a feature that is available to a select group of users of the fund management application. The adoption of bitcoin as a payment method has been gradual but at a constant pace.
