Look out for fake crypto currency apps.
If you haven't already heard about Google's recent delimna with flashlight apps, do a search on it. In short, hackers created flashlight apps that also installed back doors to steal banking app data from Android users.
On Instagram I recently shared a screenshot of a fake Peloniex app I found in Google's Play Store. The grammar was a sign of it being fake, and so were the small number of installations and reviews. About 5,000 people have fallen for this rogue app, which looks a lot like something legit if not closely examined. It has the Peloniex logo and even "screenshots." But when victims put in their login information, they were locked out of the app. They unknowingly gave their login information to hackers; who knows how much Bitcoin the bad guys were able to get!
So, be careful. Hackers get smarter (sadly) and their tools become more and more sophisticated every day. But, the bad guy doesn't always need a new tool to steal your personal information. Sometimes he just needs to trick someone into making the wrong move at the right time in the right place. When looking to download an app, especially from Google (since they don't screen every app like Apple does) look for good grammar, tons of positive reviews, and ultimately make sure the company you want an app from clearly advertises for their app on they official website.
